When Berry got tossed I read the lips of the other ump that came over. You could see it really good on TV and he definitely said "Two game suspension".
I'd love to know what all Berry said to them.
Can the 1st base umpire issue out terms and lengths of suspensions on the spot just like that? Seems odd.
I dont blame berry for blowing up.
He prob figured none of his assistants were dumb enough to put Cooper in as the pinch hitter in the 9th when bowen and viaene were available.
It wasn't the first base ump. See the pic in link. Berry had already been tossed. The ump on the left came over and within seconds you could read his lips saying "Two game suspension".

im still not convinced he can get a 2 game suspension just like that huh? doesn't someone (ncaa, conference official, etc) have to be notified and papers filed, etc? getting ejected isnt an automatic suspension. certainly not an automatic 2 game suspension. love to have heard what he said, if he gets suspended over that. ive never seen him this pissed ever. but was getting screwed on calls all day long (msu got screwed too when that kid tagged from 1st) balls / strikes included.

Yeah, it happens all the time; even in big game situations - maybe even at a higher clip in big game situations. If you DON'T do it you risk losing your team intensity going down (while you might actually prop it up by doing so). It was a one run game at that point...he needed to defend his guy; not simply give in to the call with an "oh well, s#!+ happens" mindset.

Yeah, it'd totally would've sucked if we'd lost the game because he didn't go full ape sh** and get tossed.
Hey, wait a minute....

From my observation the second official yelled " 2 games suspension" because Berry made contact with him. BUT, IMO the umpire kept trying to stop him from walking after the other umpire and initiated the contact. JMO

This wasn't a random MLB game in July. This was a regional final with possibly 3 at LSU for a shot at the CWS waiting. He lost his composure in a situation where our guys were already too uptight. Been watching baseball for 40 years and have yet to see an ump tell a ballistic coach after a straight safe/out call, "You know what? You're right. I f***ed that one up and am going to change my mind and reverse the call now."
Earl Weaver, Tommy Lasorda , Bobby Cox , Joe Torre all got tossed in their career. I guess they did not know what they were doing either . Get a clue before you post .
Well, I specifically mentioned the contrast between what happened last night and an MLB game, but since you obviously didn't comprehend it, here's a clue for you:
How many of those guys on your list ever took a 3-game suspension in the playoffs for the sake of arguing a call?
You make zero sense. First , nobody knows if there is a suspension or for how many games if there is . Second, do you ACTUALLY believe that any of the coaches knew the outcome as they were arguing the call. Take a deep breath and think before you post and prove your total ignorance to the whole world.

A 2-game suspension is the designated penalty spelled out in the rule book for a head coach continuing to argue after being ejected. Maryland's coach got hit with it in the Big Ten title game a year or two ago & had to skip two regional games. Berry would be free to appeal, of course, but arguing that he'd finished saying his peace & was removing himself in a timely manner would be an awfully tough sell based upon what everyone saw and would be able to see on the tape.
Now, maybe the umps don't file it since our season is over or the NCAA doesn't bother carrying it over to next year, but he'd have been toast for the Super if we'd rallied.

No, they didn't know the outcome, which was all the more reason for him, as the veteran coach leading a bunch of early-20-somethings into battle, to keep it together, stay in the game, and rally his young charges instead of turning an already hypertense situation into a full-blown cluster-fudge.
If his players actually gain confidence by him not being in the dugout, that's a whole other discussion we need to have.

I would hope if the NCAA was to review, they see how horrible that guy at first was, and not just in that game. They rotated a 6-man crew and I watched several games, in person, where he missed calls for numerous teams. He was quite possibly the worst umpire I have ever seen on that level of competition. He should be the one under review.

I've rationally defended my point. You're certainly free to disagree with it, though your own points seem to primarily center around merely assailing my intelligence instead of saying anything of substance. The Troll Alert level is beginning to reach critical.

Unfortunately you assail your own intelligence for the whole world to see. I truly tire of reading comments from the Negative Nancy's of the world like you . I must truly care about my University to subject myself to this by reading through the dribble in hopes of a small bit of useful information. I guess I must accept that the world has a lot of people who have NO IDEA , Perspective ,or EXPERIENCE about which they speak but yet must convey their uninformed opinions to the masses. And congratulations on that last ZINGER -it is on par with what any young teenage girl would throw out there.
