Post your random thoughts on anything Cincinnati Bearcats here. I remember throwing an aerobie on Nippert's turf with my Daniels Hall mates back in 1987. I also remember the 17 year cicada outbreak on campus that same year and students were carrying badminton and tennis rackets to class. You could hear girls screaming as they were swarmed or dive bombed. Damn winged, black things with red eyes were everywhere. We had a nerd genius on our dorm floor and one of his roommates let loose a jar full of 'em in his bed while he was sleeping. The screams were unreal. I need a large Adriaticos right now.

The late 80's was a good bar scene. Once Ohio went full blown 21, even for beer, I think it hurt the University area. Seemed people took off for Mt. Adams a lot more and bypassed campus area bars, not all of them but a lot. Next to Uncle Woody's was that Inner Circle? What was the Bar on W. Clifton Ave between Calhoun and McMillan? I think it is Chipolte now?

Chipotle was where Ripley's was. I miss that place bigleague.

Sweet Lord Ripley's. Crawled out of there a few times back then. IIRC I believe another frequent haunt was Uncle Woody's on Calhoun closer to Clifton Ave.

There you go Rath. Good memory.

I do not remember how that worked for them as to games - but I commented on how badly we needed a QB. He told me they frosh had a good one. That "good one" turned out to be Greg Cook.

I met Greg multiple times at what is now Knock Back Nats on 7th St. They hang his jersey in there. He was a super nice guy.

TV journalist Diane Sawyer was the commencement speaker in 1992. Who did others have at their graduation?

I graduated with you in 92. You were the one in a cap and gown right?

My controls class ended right at lunch. We'd all go to Uncle Woodys and if we all got the same thing they would make it the lunch special for the day.

Most of my time was spent $5 per tray at the yacht club.

1988 was Phil Donohue. Graduation was at what is now US Bank then Riverfront Coliseum. Grads brought in fireworks and champagne under their caps and gowns.

Ran into parents of a kid considering going to Cincinnati, Ohio State or Ohio U for engineering (the parents both went to Bowling Green but were wearing O$U football gear). The kid was leaning to Cincinnati because of the co-op program. For the first time in a couple of years we and our daughters were asked if the neighborhood was "safe". My girls gave them a rousing recommendation.

If maw and paw were wearing tOSU gear kid will go to tOSU.

Asking whether UC is safe is rich...as if the area tOSU in is safe. Not.

03-lmfao He also preformed at homecoming or something when I was there. Joe Steger introduced him to the crowd.

I had some judge in '10 at UC, the President of Ireland at Michigan State in '12, and finally Seth Meyers at Northwestern in '16.

Ditto here - Bill Cosby who talked about racial equality in Cincy. Note he did not talk about gender equality.

My graduation in 1989 was the first event held in the Shoemaker Center.

I think our speaker was whoever was mayor of Cincinnati at that time.

The standard nightly tour of Uncle Woodys, In the Wood, and JCs followed up with foos at Papa Dinos (unless we decided to go back to the house and wake someone up to drive us to Skyline )

RE: Random Thoughts From Bearcat Nation
We loved JC's. It was known as a frat place, but we ignored those guys. However, we loved the free peanuts (everyday at first, that only on certain nights by graduation), but mostly we liked the beer being served in Mason jars. The shoddy wood floor also reminded us of bars in Mercer county.

JC's had the most dangerous feature I can recall, as the restroom was in the basement, and the steps were both short and covered in slippery paint. You could count on seeing someone take the fall every night.

Also, I must have been part of hundreds of rounds of kamikaze's there.

Sometimes in my free time, I like to picture historic venues reconfigured to accommodate international futbol standards (ex. Wrigley Field, Lambeau Field, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Rose Bowl, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Churchill Downs, Wimbledon Stadium, Old Course at St. Andrews, etc.).

Well, St. Andrews is a Scottish National Park, I have literally seen a dog **** on the Road Hole's green...and I'm pretty sure the Rose Bowl, Coliseum, and Wrigley have all hosted soccer games.

I really just wonder where Doss' helicopter lands on gameday, or is there a building on campus with a hidden hangar Richie Rich style?

During our time that class was Danny Ransohoff's Urban Lobbying. Danny brought in great speakers from Jerry Springer (just after he passed the bad check to a hooker) to some KKK nut-job.
