Figueroa transferring to a junior college. Was going to transfer even if Weird had stayed. The next player we might lose would be a bigger "blow". We will see
I don't know who is still committed to NMSU. But I have a feeling Johnathon Wilkins is also very close to graduating; like Taylor, Bhullar and Pennie. Those three were 4th year juniors just like Wilkins is currently.

Again, this is not unexpected. NMSU needs to fill three scholarships for the 2017-18 season. The main players are AJ Harris, Sidy Ndir, Eli Chuha and Jemerrio Jones. NMSU will also get support from Wilkins and Marlon Jones. After those 6, NMSU will need to incorporate four freshmen... Johnny McCants, Gabe Hadley, Kortrijk Miles, and "maybe" Bollo Gnahore. I suspect Jans will add at least two jucos or grad transfers to be named later. I think NMSU needs one more guard (hopefully a juco or grad transfer), one more big man (maybe a freshman), and one more wing forward (also hopefully a juco or grad transfer).
**Edited** Besides adding two or three players to the Aggie roster, probably the most important positions that need to be filled soon are the three openings on Jans staff: two assistant coaches and a director of basketball operations. Assistant coaches Hsu and Bopps were a big reason for Weir's "almost" recruiting class at NMSU. Jans new staff additions could play a major part as well.
I'm rooting for Jans to pull some solid grad transfers who can bring experience and an attitude the reflects what he wants the Aggies program to be. Guys like that buy in & buy him a year to get his feet under him to really build the type of recruiting pipeline he wants (i.e. HS, JUCO, etc) without tying up scholarships long-term.
In no way should anyone think that means lowering expectations. We've discussed at length a) the strong core of players returning to NMSU & b) Jans' demonstrated ability to adapt his system to the players, rather than demanding the opposite. Those things lead me to believe Aggies will be more than fine.
I won't believe otherwise unless/until I see it with my own eyes.

RE: WAC offseason transfer thread
Bench is absolutely depleted, going to be hard to win relying on new guys. Most good grad transfers have already made their decisions. Jans is really going to have to rely on freshman and JUCOs. The core is good but without an experienced bench it won't mean much. There isn't a proven guy on the bench right now. Just my opinion with what I've seen. Don't turn this into another off topic insult match.

Unless there are still freshmen with great potential available, I don't see Jans tying up any scholarships with a depleted 2017 freshmen class; at this late date. I think there are still grad transfers who can help NMSU. Heck, even Jalyn Pennie, who could have helped NMSU this coming season if he had stayed, will not be available to other D1 programs until August. So, I think there will be other "decent" grad transfers who will become available prior to this fall semester. Additionally, there are still some good JC players who are taking summer school to become D1 eligible. I'm sure a good JC player could fall into NMSU's hands; much like Jemerrio Jones did last year. Jans still has options to improve his program vastly... along with Seattle's Hayford who also has a couple of scholarships to fill. Until NMSU and Seattle fills their final scholarships, it is difficult to predict how much impact either program will have on the final WAC standings.

NMSU C Bollo Gnahore will transfer. Probably expected with his injury but it sounds like he wants to still play, maybe his recovery has gone better than we thought. Jans has 4 scholarships to work with now.

Bollo is in denial thinking he can play. I heard it directly from Weirs mouth before he left he was going to get the team doctor to get him declared medically ineligible. He also said he was not that good. Jan's try to feel out the situation first but came to the same conclusion as Weir.

For what it's worth, the is the kind of sound, objective analysis you came with when you first started posting. Not sure how things went off the track. Anyways, good to see you are "back".

Well, according to Verbal Commits, UTRGV took a hit today. Apparently Adrean Johnson is transferring to Paris Junior College. Even after a red-shirt season, it appears he could not get his grades in order.

Wow. He wasn't even traveling with the team. So there's no excuse there. Now he's gonna wake up, get his grades in order, go to Kentucky, and be the number 1 pick in the draft.

That's great news! Hope he got some good feedback going through the process. Baker did the same after last season, right? I honestly don't understand why more don't do the same. I know not everyone is invited to the NBA combine, but why not try and workout for as many teams as you can & learn where the holes are in your game. If basketball really is your craft, I'd think information like that would be invaluable.

Just saw that myself! Glad to hear. He worked out with the Jazz yesterday. Hopefully he comes back hungry and ready to prove himself.

Well, According to Coach Jans... "You know, our goal is to use all of our scholarships," he said. "We start summer school (2nd session) June 29. In a perfect world, we'll have our whole squad, including our coaching staff and our players, all signed and sealed and delivered."
Well, we'll see if Jans can get it done. This next month there should be a lot of activity within the Aggie basketball program.

Am I the only one who heard this when you read "all signed and sealed and delivered"?
