And, it's not sour grapes. He needs to be grateful.

How about: "I was a big recruit coming out of high school, I suffered a lot of injuries, my coaches and teammates stuck with me, I finally felt healthy, but a true freshman outplayed me so I lost my starting job. I obviously didn't do enough, so I need to blame others. Thank you to W&M for giving me a chance."

I agree 100%. I have no problem with his transferring.as he is graduating, and he is taking full advantage of the loophole that the NCAA presents him. I do, however, have a major issue with how he handled the transfer.

For the good of our program, he should have alerted our coaches of his thought process long ago when we actually had a chance to act instead of react. I certainly do not know any of the issues on either side that really led up to his decision but like many on these boards I can certainly come to some logical conclusions. And I fully understand that he has every right to make a decision that is right for him without any consideration of what kind of hole he leaves our program in.

I may fully understand his right to make the decision but that does not mean that I have to like it. We are all entitled to opinions on these boards, and we all know the old saying about having an opinion. My personal and unfounded opinion is that this transfer, or more to the point the timing of the transfer and how it was handled, was motivated by more than just about the opportunity to develop his skills elsewhere, and I will leave it at that. I will not be wishing him luck, good or otherwise, and most certainly he should not give a rat's behind about what I think.

It is time to move on.

And we haven't had many players like what he would have been next year. While I'm skeptical he'll be much more than an emergency big for Kansas, this is a massive loss for us that greatly lowers our ceiling next season.

All right. I'll weigh in.

I thank the player for his services, and wish him the best of luck at Kansas.

If reports on here are true, I don't like what the player did to the program with the late decision.

Athletically, this is a big loss for the program, and I agree that next year's ceiling has been lowered.

Chemistry-wise, we'll see. There were problems last year. Don't know if this player was involved in that.

Finally, and this is something that the player won't know until later, has the player burned his bridges to the Tribe community? If so, that's a steep price to pay for a year in Kansas.

First, I will weigh in with my opinion (which, like all of our opinions, nobody cares about). I thank Jack for his contributions to the program, wish him well in his future endeavors, and I think that his absence will be a loss for next year.

Second, I could not help but be amused by how all the Kansas newspapers' articles contained pictures of Jack playing against Duke (and not Savannah State, for example) and how the only stats they seemed interested in were his stats against Duke and Louisville. Yes, I understand it from the KU point of view --- but, frankly, I am always more interested in how our guys play against UNCW, Charleston, Hofstra, etc etc.

I feel like this is a bigger loss for us than it is a gain for Kansas.

This program and team is far more solid than the loss of Jack Whitman. I look forward to seeing how this team develops next year.

Enjoy the honeymoon because the reality of higher expectations can turn very difficult and humbling, and you never get where you are on your own.

And there in lies the rub. Jack sees himself as someone who can develop into a "stretch 4", and Self alludes to the same above. Yet with the Tribe I never recall one time where he took a shot facing the basket where he was even 8-10 feet away. And from everything I saw from Nathan last year, it would be he, not Jack, who would play the "stretch 4" position if both he and Jack were on the floor at the same time.

Jack's Transfer Destination
Evan Maxwell, 6'10" 235lb C from PA, who played his 1st two seasons at Liberty, with similar stats to Jack, 10 pts 4.8 rebs in 21 mins, transferred to Kansas last year after deciding against Arizona, Baylor, Cincy and Virginia, then left in December during his sit out year. Was academic kid out of HS. Cannot find anything on where he is now, but would be an interesting trade with, I assume, 2 years immediate eligibility.

Whitman didn't attempt a single 3 in his career. Knight was 2-12. To paraphrase Tennyson, it is better to have tried to shoot jumpers and failed than to never have tried to shoot jumpers at all.

RE: Jack's Transfer Destination
For what its worth, I work with a guy who is a big KU fan. we went to the KU vs. Davidson game in KC this past season.

He said that KU did really need a back up big man and he would be surprised if Whitman didn't get on the court most games and could average 10 minutes per game playing inside.

Self was forced to play 1 in 4 out last year and they struggled when the 1 in was on the bench. he wants to play 2 bigs at one time, but couldn't this past season.

Signing Jack is like when an NBA team uses a mid level cap exception to get a backup that they think they need.

Whitman has gone from the outhouse to the penthouse. Living in a luxury dorm, a short walk from the arena. All those banners. Every game is a spectacle. Beautiful town filled with basketball crazed fans. Rock chalk Jayhawk. I'm happy for the kid.

Outhouse, as in "out of the postseason". I understand exactly what SoCal Frank was saying, and honestly, I wouldn't take any offense to it. Our history speaks for itself.

More of a Split-level. Definitely not a Tudor.

Firstly, this is a metaphor for the following. Some background. An outhouse is a poor mans substitute for an indoor toilet I recently visited Soweto where 15 families in a population of 55,000 are assigned to one outhouse. I have personal experiences with outhouses when we were poor. The penthouse is quite the opposite. These are places where movie stars live. Speaking metaphorically, imagine the Kaplan as a bare bones arena. Partially filled , no banners, not even beer/wine/ or good fresh Mexican cuisine. That should be pretty easy.
Now imagine you are in Lawrence KS. Sixteen thousand plus going wild. For every game!!!Championship banners galore hanging from everywhere. Names like Naismith, Chamberlin, Wilt that is, Manning, etc,etc etc. The hall of fame under the same roof which includes the Kansas comet, Gayle Sayers, Frank Ryan, etc.
Get it?
That's why I'm happy for the kid. He'll forever be a Jayhawk.

Sure, just wanted to hear it out of your mouth...you think W&M is a place to **** and KU is quite the opposite. Maybe you should treat yourself to USC football and KU basketball fandom since the Tribe isn't good enough for you.

Guess I have a lot more pride in my school.

Jack walked away because he couldn't get it done in Williamsburg and a freshman beat him out. He walked straight to an established top-tier program where he'll have as much to do with their success as their trainer. Forever a Jayhawk that no KU fan could pick out of a two person lineup.

Yet another transfer from GW. Noticed 6'10 center Collin Smith announced he is leaving. Talented young big man. I have no idea if there is any interest from Smith or the Tribe.
