RE: Karen Barefoot is Gone, Finally
"but some question if the administration is actually committed to using the resources necessary, to resurrect it. Sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, tell Swish Appeal, that Old Dominion is only offering between $215,000-$225,000."

Who are these "some people?" Guy on the street? Karen? Corrigan? Another media person? Wendy? Not saying it's wrong, but in this day and age a hint as to who this guy spoke to would go a long way to establishing his credibility. And as little as some of you think of Wood and the rest of the admin, they are experienced enough to know what the investment would be to return ODU to its former greatness. Story would have you believe they have no clue, which tells me at least one of the sources was Karen or Corrigan or someone with an ax to grind.

Also, it is very possible because of all of the things endlessly chewed over here in terms of budget, money, Cox, COA, football, we've entered into a period where the major sports at ODU must at least come close to paying for themselves, to breaking even. With horribly dwindling attendance and I assume targeted ODAF contributions, I doubt WBB had become anything but a money drain. To me, those are the realities.

Its all part of the P5 plan to starve the rest of us out of being able to compete. Its working too. When a school gets 25 million vs. 200,000 there is really no comparison.

its weird, but just read Delawares coach Tina Martin, who has a pretty good record and career, just got hired by Karen at UNCW to be her asst. coach. Dont know why any seasoned coach would be an assistant to a coach like Karen who was a terrible x and o coach.

Tina announced her retirement a few weeks ago (suggested by the UD AD who was ready to move in a new direction). Guess she wasnt ready to call it quits. Plus, Wilimington NC is not a bad place to wind down a career.

Martin might have been forced out of Delaware; apparently the players there were not happy with her at all:

If you read Tina Martin's quotes, she stated she's retiring from Delaware, not from coaching.

Had Martin not retired from Delaware, their new AD was going to retire her.

Would love to get McCray but withthe low salary and state of the program we will probably have to go for another small school coach with no major accomplishments as of yet. Wish we could get some good news

This could be funny down here. The best coaching meltdown ever at our place (other than tim floyd's annual t fest) Was smith exploding at a fan after losing on a buzzer beater a few years back. Never heard a coach drop that many f bombs in one rant.

Gi Smith following KB to UNCW.

Jacksonville's Yolett McPhee-McCuin, Clemson's Audra Smith, Towson's Niki Reid Geckeler seem to be the top candidates.

The last two been coaching for a total of 19 years without a NCAA appearance.

RE: Karen Barefoot is Gone, Finally
i bet nikki mccray laughed at our offer. its crazy that schools like Toledo can offer $300,000 pay with $10,000 a year increase in pay and we cant. We have one of the largest athletic budgets of any G5 school yet most of our coaches are well under the norm for mid major salaries. Wonder if being in a far flung conference is affecting us significantly with our travel budget? however, there are teams in our own conference that pay their coaches more then we currently do.

it was speculated on pilotonline article, i only thought she was viable because Wood tends to go after his former WKU employees, which she was, when hiring.

If you are MTSU, USM, UAB, WKU, LT or even UNCC the conference isn't so bad geographically. If you are UTEP, ODU, Marshall or a FL school it sucks.

Older, more established football programs have already built practice facilities and stadiums. We are still in construction phase. Down the line there will be more money for salaries. Infrastructure first.
