Nice work by this sportswriter with the FOIA requests. He posted a copy of the game contract at the link below.

http://pilotonline.com/sports/college/ol...7aae1.html

Quote:Liberty will pay ODU an eye-popping $1.32 million to play in the Flames' 2018 home opener, according to records obtained on Monday from ODU by The Virginian-Pilot under the Freedom of Information Act.

I suspected they would have to spend more than others to procure these games, but even that much for an intrastate CUSA team?

The longer this goes on with them not finding a home, the more suspect it becomes how they manage their books at that school. NO WAY that is sustainable.

I wonder how much of that is trying to get an attractive first FBS opponent. Not that Old Dominion is Virginia Tech or even Virginia, but it's a familiar name that will probably bring a decent crowd along. I'm guessing this will be the exception rather than the rule.

What did Liberty pay New Mexico and BYU to come there? Those games make no sense at all. Well, BYU makes a little sense with the Indy situation, but New Mexico is a million miles away...is Bob Davie a Liberty fan, or are the Lobos getting boocoo bucks?

Aren't those both home-and-homes? Usually no money changes hands, or a relatively nominal amount — certainly nothing like seven digits.

ODU is a buy game, though I wouldn't be surprised if they entered a long-term contract with Liberty at some point after 2020, which I presume would be H-and-H (though if they want to cough up that kind of coin for more trips down scenic Route 460, why not?)

BYU is not going to Liberty. Liberty is going to Provo.

Liberty is probably doing an "even" split (no money) on those two for one deals, and is paid Troy and Umass to break their game up. I'm sure they are throwing some cash at NMSu since both of the home games for Liberty are in November and the trips to Las Cruces in October (even split would have seen each getting one home game in November ... those are hard for Indies to get)

Yes they are a home and home but why would New Mexico agree to a H&H with a school so far away? Looking over their schedules I see Notre Dame is paying them for a 1 and done (obvious $ game) as is Texas A&M (twice) UCLA and USC. Those games make sense for UNM. They've played regional schools like NM ST and UTEP 100 times, Arizona 67 times, BYU 60 times, Texas Tech 45 times etc. I just think it's one of those series's that stand out like a sore thumb. ?

This is what Ive been saying. Liberty has a ton of cash from their online university. They could literally just buy themselves a 12 game schedule without blinking an eye.

BYU @ Liberty in 2022.

This is true. Hopefully, that stadium expansion is ready by then. Lots of BYU fans and alumni in Virginia, DC, and North Carolina. BYU traveled well recently in games at Virginia and v. WVU (at FedEx Field).

They still get billions of federal dollars. Who do you think pays for most of the on-line degrees that are Liberty's Cash cows?

Why I love America and Capitalism. Rewards those who are innovative and leaves those who aren't jealous as hell. Liberty made online work for them, no different then Univ of Phoniex or other univerities.

Again, no one forces you to attend Liberty or take out student loans to go there.

So you don't have a problem with your tax dollars subsidizing Liberty Football. Got it.

Exactly. Good on Liberty for innovating, building and self-sustaining. Built from the ground-up and passed many schools with decades-centuries head start on them.

Dude, I rather it go to Liberty football than wasteful gov't programs and pork projects. Good lord man, have you seen some of the Taxpayer Research projects? Personally, I be glad to suspend all college loan programs and subsidy programs. I have a feeling there are for worse "Univerities" that soaked tax payers more than Liberty weill ever dream about. Talk about taxpayer paying for football, look at some of the public programs curently in the FBS.
