I don't know that we can afford her now, but I do know that Nancy wanted the job back when Wendy was released and ODU went with Karen instead.
FWIW - one of the major roadblocks to selecting Nancy last time (on the ODU admin side) was she never finished her degree. Guess what(?) - she did it after Karen was hired? She came back and finished it. I would suggest she would not have bothered to finish up while coaching in the NBA unless she wanted that impediment out of the way "if" the ODU coaching position would open up again. Sooo...
So she still is coaching with Sacramento (NBA), although from what I've read, that franchise is a train wreck.

Selig needs to make a move here that checks one of these boxes:
1) Former ODU great (Nancy, Anne, etc.)
2) Up and coming P5 assistant coach that can relate to players out of high school.
You want to hire a coach based off of their playing career at ODU?
Might I suggest you do a little homework on each of these before you ask this question
Anne has a great coaching resume in addition to being a legend here.
Nancy has had coaching stints and completely believe her knowledge of the game would be equal to or greater than anyone we hire, plus she is a legend
Mery, is starting her coaching career, but you won't find a harder worker who has a lot of basketball experience under her belt. Plus might she have some international contacts we that could infuse the program with players who can compete in a top 25 environment.
We need someone who intimately understands what the program used to be and has a desire to return it to the glory days.
Which coaching career are you looking at regarding Donovan? Her USA/WNBA record or her collegiate record?
Huge difference in coaching the USA team and college (Seton Hall & ECU).
Team USA 132-10
Seton Hall 23-57 (4-34 big east)
ECU 33-51 (16-32)
Do you know how many games Liberman has coached in her career? 154 TOTAL
That's 94 (46 wins and 48 losses) in the WNBA & 60 (24 wins and 26 losses) in the D-League.
Might want to do some research
Being a legend (due to your playing ability) doesn't automatically make you a good fit. Look at the Hornets and their legendary owner.......

Nice try, glad you spent some time looking up records after you got called out. I'm guessing you never knew either of them coached before based on your original post.
If you wouldn't want to have Donovan or Lieberman coaching the ODU women then that is your right. I just think you are misinformed.

Actually I did. Some people -who grow up with multiple older sisters- are exposed to female athletes/role models at a young age.
Nice attempt at a safe though. It was clear that you had NO IDEA how horrible Donovan was as a collegiate head coach. Or that Liberman coaching experience is limited.
The fact that you want people who the average 18 year old probably doesn't even know who they are (thus making their playing career irrelevant when it comes to a selling point) shows how misinformed you are when it comes to what kids want in a coach

Ever consider that coaching a team to a WNBA championship and winning the Olympic Gold medal as a coach might be decent credentials for an ODU women's team who has been awful for 5+ years straight?
Just read that out loud. Why did Team USA want Donovan?

What is a better representation of what Donovan can do at ODU?
Having an unbelievable record coaching the best female talent in the world? Talent that she doesn't have to actively recruit and convince to play for team USA.
OR
Having a subpar record coaching at two relative mid majors (based on the conferences they were in at the time -ECU-) and having to recruit talent to beat NOT UCONN (Seton hall) or ODU (ECU), but the second tier schools?
Yup what she did with the National team is a great representation of what she can do with ODU.

I'll ask the question again. Why did Team USA want Donovan? If you don't want to answer this time I get it.
You would rather us hire another Coach from the Big South or have Selig give the job to one of his old friends.

Because Donovan can coach professionals. Her success has been with high level athletes, not with mid major D1 players.
Not sure why you choose not to understand that.
Next time before you go on a tangent about someone's coaching pedigree make sure you know the good and the bad of what they have done.
And as for "who I would rather the AD hire" I would prefer a coach who can relate to the players, which is most likely not some 60 year old woman.

Regardless of how old a potential coach is or isnt, I would bet you a benjamin that any potential recruit to ODU that has a decent interest in our program knows exactly who Nancy and Anne are. They probably know their achievements as well so there's a possibility, just like every other coach who comes from a professional league, that higher rated recruits *could* come here. Then what? You're argument of Anne coaching top talent could be a reality.

My argument is a reality. People just don't want to acknowledge that when looking at her body of work, Donovan has had NO success coaching at the collegiate level.
If you honestly think 17-18 year olds know who Anne Donovan is you are smoking something good. I would say that they would know who Liberman is because if her "coaching position" with the Kings and most likely were interested in the story.

I absolutely smoke the good stuff so there's no question about that. Can't figure out if that was supposed to be an insult or not? My guess would be yes being that I still have PM's from you in my inbox.
Keep it rocking WINNER! We all salute you!

The issue I have with Nancy, is thinking how hard it is to just jump into college coaching. She hasn't worked with the NCAA and their rules. The NCAA rule book is thicker than a New York phone book. No recruiting connections. What about being responsible for 15 young women 247. We might get a quick buzz from the hire, but how would she workout in the long haul.

If they do not know Lieberman or Donovan then both ladies can point to their names up in the rafters, along with the Jersey number that is no longer in use. Might get an 18 yo's attention.

Her son just graduated from Richmond and played there. I am sure she is aware of college and NCAA rules. Also, she is a motivational speaker to athletes of all ages.

I'm going way out on a limb here. My gut instinct says there have been personality and life style issues going on in the women's program starting with Wendy and continuing on with Barefoot. Nancy L. had a run in at Detroit as a I recall as well, the kind of run in that might preclude her from serious consideration.
