Joel Nielsen Contract
Danny73, I am not doubting your info. I am just disappointed in it. It's a lethargic dept that needs a change at the top. Marketing, direction of the programs, endowments. Nothing is trending up. We are the third largest university in the state. We need to act like it!!

RE: Joel Nielsen Contract
Joel has had his ups and downs as well as controversies and big successes throughout his tenure. His youngest daughter committed to play golf @ KSU, so I would imagine he plans on sticking around for a while with his other 2 daughters current sophmores on the KSU women's golf team.

The facilities improvement has really helped a few of the programs take the next step, but some questionable hires & fires/forced resignation have been puzzling.

President Beverly Warren is a refreshing change from Lefton & Cartwright, who could have cared less about athletics or at least that is/was the perception. President Warren has been pushing for changes in different parts of the athletic department (facilities and other items), so I think the trajectory is pointing up as long as she is here.

I wouldn't lump Cartwright w/Lefton by any stretch ... She was quite involved with athletics both at Kent and nationally and spearheaded a lot of NCAA legislation beneficial to the MAC ... Lefton is the one who buried athletics in a hole KSU is still digging out of ... Warren and Cartwright spent more meaningful time on athletics in one week than lefton did in his career ...

I use to see Pres. Cartwright at the men's games but didn't notice Pres. Warren at the games except for ceremonial events-like UNLEASH. Maybe she had different seating and wasn't as visible to me.

Dr. Warren was at the majority of the men's games. She may have missed a few. Usually near center court, a few rows up in the chairbacks.

As a relative "newbie" to this forum-curious as to the final outcome of the" forced resignation" of the softball coach and title IX filing against the university+ Ahtletic department from the KSU softball player from the sexual assault incident with the baseball player (who was also the Softball coaches son)?? I don't know how Joel Neilson gets a contract extension under the cloud of an unresolved Title IX incident?? Any update would be appreciated....

Add to that, hiring of an uncertified trainer to over see the training program and you have several blemishes on the resume.

The above incident happened after his extension.

RE: Joel Nielsen Contract
Kesterson case is still pending in federal court, and trial wouldn't be for months yet. Lots of pretrial maneuvering by KSU.

Trump is backing off using Title IX on sexual assault cases at colleges, which might affect this. But it's a private lawsuit, not a government action.

Here's most recent story from Kentwired (Stater website) from July:

Joel might not be able to hire a football coach or guide MBB to a higher level or administer title IX or be liked by any of his coaches. But you know what he can do? He can get his daughter hired in as an intern in the Athletic Dept. I am sure she was the most qualified. He needs to slink off into the night.

RE: Joel Nielsen Contract
Is Joel Neilson contract public record? I assume so as an employee of a public institution. As my family is close to having three generations of KSU grads (fingers crossed for Dec grad), and with KSU the 2nd/3rd largest public university in Ohio-why can't this Athletic director at least be mildly competent??? I think some of the coaching staffs are constantly battling uphill for resources etc.. Daughter as an intern in the department he heads up?? the old tag line "Excellence in Action" is missing from the Athletic Dept....

I salute the coaches in the various sports who have experienced success in spite of Joel Neilson and his lack of support and incompetence..

Looks like we are getting posters finally asking the right questions and making observations. We need more of us.

Dr Kamansenze was saying those things right from the beginning and we more or less ignored him. Sometimes it’s obvious but you just don’t want to admit it. Go back and read his posts knowing what you now know and it is worrisome.

Your last sentence is true but those coaches can only hold on for so long. I am worried about wrestling and gymnastics both of which got worse last year. This year will be important for both programs. Baseball and track are also drifting a bit.
