.

Would be interesting legal battle. Grant of Rights vs. a Breach of Contract through the boycott.

ESPN wouldn't let it get that far, though.

Well now Bullet that just depends. Here's a hypothetical for you. Texas gives ESPN an ultimatum. "Gee guys we like your network and love having the LHN, but we aren't moving to the ACC and we don't have the kinds of prospects with which to expand. If you don't help us keep our own conference which by all metrics is #3 in the P5, and you insist on placing us in the #5, or asking us to go into your other conference where we don't want to be, then we'll just head to FOX and the Big 10 when the GOR is up!"

Now consider that ESPN could convert the LHN into a B12N if they cooperated with the Horns. So ESPN essentially brokers out the only conference to which they hold 100% of the rights (how convenient). They place the brands they truly want to lock down in the SEC and the Big 12 grows its markets for the conversion of the LHN by taking most of the rest. N.D. gets the same deal in the new B12 where Pitt, Syracuse and Miami among others now reside and they still get games in Georgia and Florida which was what they were after in part when they agreed to come to the ACC. Keep some of those lacrosse playing former Big East schools that now join WVU in the Big 12 on the schedule and voila. Duke, North Carolina, a Virginia school, Clemson and Florida State can all make 50 million plus a year in the SEC and the Big 12 with Big 12N survives and Texas keeps all of its buddies and ESPN keeps Texas.

There's no issue with the GOR since ESPN holds it and enough schools are released to dissolve a conference.

If N.D. is amenable then what does ESPN lose except for half of the pay for the T1 & T2 rights of the moving schools which would now receive that from FOX. The SECN which is profitable becomes even more so and everybody's makes more money while the Cow gets what it wants.

But, that's been there the whole time. And in all likelihood it's still wait and see on the Big 12. I'm just saying you can't rule anything out when rights to Texas may be at stake, or when a school can leave their conference and make 200 million more in a decade in another one.

Man, the SEC and Big Ten would be ALL over this.

At least on the Big Ten front, the conference is just as much as or even more against homophobic and transphobic bigotry than the ACC schools. They'd definitely boycott any bigoted North Carolina laws in the same manner as the ACC. The SEC would likely be the same (as the academics that run those schools have quite different political views than many of their alums and T-shirt fans). If you don't want boycotts, then don't pass bigoted laws. I work for a Global Fortune 50 company that is hardly a place of leftist thinking... and I can tell you that the North Carolina legislature has done a HUGE disservice to attracting more investment that would create more jobs in that state from companies like the one that I work at (much less the Silicon Valley firms that have pulled out of NC expansion plans).

Transphobic? Over/under until it will be declared bigotry to be against Plural marriage, I'll say 10 years.

North Carolina public schools leave the NCAA and create and all North Carolina State Athletic Association which brings in all the D1, D2, D3 and NAIA schools, and the NJCAA schools that play sports. The privates in the state would want to go with them because it effects them as well.

That's polygamy and I have no doubt now that it would be next. It's just hard enough sometimes to live with the one that I love. I'd hate the prospect of having them gang up on me.

They don't give a crap.

NC is one of the worst gerrymandered states in the union. Its state politics are B.S.

Yep. Probably what they had in mind.

B1G gets UNC and the SEC gets NC St.

Sankey didn't honor the ban on the Belk Bowl. But neither did he make an issue of it. People like to define their own morality or have it defined for them by their faith. Anyone who holds sexual identity against another is bigoted, but anyone who foists their version of morality on another is a tyrant. There are plenty of bigots on the right, but they are only surpassed by the tyrants on the left, or worse by those with a corporate agenda. Most corporations are amoral because enforcing any version of morality other than "thou shalt not kill or steal" is bad for business. And in geopolitics an embargo against trade is an act of war.

RE: UNC and NC State to leave ACC?
I noticed people are getting really animated on this one nationally. It has turned into a great fund raising effort for both political parties and numerous PACs.

It's a hype story. The Governor is a Democrat, so even if a majority (and from what I've read it doesn't have that level of support) in both houses voted for it (already unlikely), it's impossible to see the Governor sign it. It dies there, unless by some wild scenario 2/3rds of each house vote to override a veto..

It's exciting! Everybody gets to say how horrible this is, or how much it's needed. But most important pressure groups and PACs can replenish their war-chests for the next round of political office races. And do it with your money that you gave believing something horrible/great was about to happen ... then didn't. (Oh, they never give your money back)

Dear ACC,

FAU and FIU stand ready to bring more Florida teams to your conference should the Carolina's leave so that the UM and FSU will have easy in state games to help increase the exposure of the conference. Please call at your earliest convenience.

Sincerly

FAU and FIU

P.S. I can dream right?

I want this to happen so badly! North Carilina and NC ST leaving the ACC would be the funniest thing to happen since the last ACC raid of the Big Least. My bad, the first ACC Big least raid. There's been 3: VD, Da U, BC. Then sPitt, Cuse. Then ND, Ville. Great moments in sports. I mean politics. I mean business. Right, sports.

This is not likely to happen but what if a few other states do pass similar "bathroom" laws. They would also become off limits to ncaa events and presumably, conference events too. Kansas, Texas and whatever other states that are contemplating these sorts of laws would have to join with each other and NC to organize a new semi-national athletic association. Weird.
