Wichita State going to the AAC is looking pretty serious. If the MVC loses them then that league is definitely lower RPI than the SBC. The SBC has been itching to add MoSt for a bit. This would be incentive for them to leave. But that wouldn't happen in a vacuum. Liberty is moving up. That breaks the normal order of things. The order JMU was perfectly happy to abide by. Now they're surrounded by FBS teams in an area they were comfortable recruiting in for football while Olympicaly the SBC and CAA are equals.
Could this be the SBC's path to 12/14?
Where Missouri State is now as a hoops program, they obviously don't have the juice to come in unless it is to get to 12/14
I think we've established the presidents don't want Liberty.
The only known willings are Jax State which won't happen because they are too close to GaSt and yet another Bama school. EKU which I think everyone is leery of their circumstances, and NMSU who might get traction as a 12/14 despite geography but not if MoSt is 11/13
JMU may well hold they key for Missouri State.
How do you know Jax State wants in the Sun Belt?

Jax St has done a lot of facility upgrades the last couple years, basketball arena, baseball stadium currently being completely rebuilt, football stadium already holds 25k. Had UAb not restarted football, Jax St would probably already be on the FBS list.
Right now, I believe there are numerous FCS teams that want FBS. Now that Liberty has broken that glass ceiling, there could be more schools that do the same.

Meh, I don't believe other administrations have the money or stupidity that Liberty has. I believe others are smart enough that being an independent isn't the option, when you have no guaranteed bowls.

Bowl guarantees have to be the most overrated things in college football. Every bowl-eligible team (and some that aren't) makes a bowl. I mean, I guess it's nice to have a contract but under the current setup it'll be a very rare independent team that wins 6 games and doesn't play in a bowl.

With the increase payout from guarantee games as a FBS team v FCS team not sure Liberty will lose as much money in FBS.
Liberty would be better off playing more money games than a bowl game. Most players would rather play in front of large crowd than some no name bowl. Also if the independent pool keeps growing the offer become more attractive to more schools. Enough teams to get the required home games and you are your own boss not the conference. The other sports have to be in a conference for most schools to have any chance for post season play.
As for JSU, the new administration wasnt interested in FBS during the last SB expansion. Not sure anything has changed to make JSUs leaders interested now.

Somewhat related to the discussion, I just read on the realignment board that the MVC may consider UTA if Witchita State leaves. I wonder if UTA considers that a viable option or not. An MVC without the shockers doesn't seem like an upgrade to me. The Sun Belt would have a lot of things to consider in regard to replacement / expansion if UTA leaves.

if uta does not plan to add football the movalley might be a logical fit but we dont have a history with any of those schools. we do have a long history with wichita state but none of the others. mostate recruits here and I have known local kids that have gone there but other than that I dont see uta fans getting very excited about the movalley without wichita state.

That could actually give UTA a chance to restart football in the MVC and at the FCS level. That would require no upgrades to the current football stadium.
This whole Witchita St possibility actually changes a lot more then people are talking about.

An invite to the MVC does not guarantee a future football program a home. The MVC doesn't have football. The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) is separate and they already have 10 members and are considering adding USD and UND as I understand it.

Interesting tweet by President Karbhari from last summer. He didn't go as far as whipping out a NCAA regulation soccer ball though. Seems to like women's sports:

Didn't UTA add another women's sport a year or so ago??? Sounds like they are working on those Title IX requirements before announcing football.

They added women's golf. Just finished golf clubhouse and practice green finished last year. Could be purely coincidental
What's interesting is that the Texas Rangers will build a new stadium and eventually vacate/sell Globe Life Park in the future. UTA's athletic director was a contributor and supporter of the new stadium movement. Not sure why he'd get involved

UTA starts football. Add Missouri State to the Sun Belt. MVC adds Murray State. OVC adds Little Rock.

Except the years TXST went 6-6 and 7-5 and sat at home.

The sad part is that JMU is not actively looking to FBS conference affiliation. After some informal dinner talks in Frisco with some of the big donors and the JMU admin if they got an official FBS invite they would most likely go with it.

I think you guys had a shot with The Sun Belt a few years back . . your administration did you no favors waiting on CUSA (at the time).
Sometimes you've gotta take what you can get, until you can get what you want.
IF an invite were to come your way, your admin. Would be wise to jump on it, regardless of whether it's "your ideal situation" or not.

Shouldn't we be looking for schools to fill the future void in the west? Schools like Central Arkansas, Mizzou State, Sam Houston State, McNeese State would be good additions in the west.

I just threw up a little bit. We might as well just drop back down to FCS as a conference

I agree, best case is to poach the CUSA, when their train wreck gets to bad for some schools to handle. Especially a school in our geographical footprint that isn't a complete failure. *cough* USM *cough*
