Without Thornwell
I still can't believe we beat them, even without Thornwell...
They are a decent 3-4 place AAC team without him. Martin said one of worst games of the year. And before people start on Frank Martin and how long it takes to build a program:
They are football school. Basketball has been irrelevant there forever. Two round of 25 finishes.
Their last Win in NCAAs before this year was 1973. So yes, a LONG rebuilding job.
The reality is our program is in a worse position than when Cal left. We have a coach that builds his teams off four year players. He doesn't have a foundation. It will take time. Everyone needs to stop complaining. Cal isn't coming through those doors to give us the #1 recruiting class and actually be able to coach them up
Fuente built his teams with five year players coaching them up. We are seeing the reward even after he leaves, one by continued success and two actually attracting a real coach. The same will be done in basketball. Unfortunately it's going to take time. The players Pastner brought in felt entitled and are mentally weak and weren't coached up.

Congratulations to Frank Martin.
I don't even want to imagine, it's bad enough as it is now

Congratulations to Frank Martin.
But, again, Martin took over a 10 win team who graduated their leading scorer. Of course it will take more time. And like Pearl at AU, he had to add a couple warm bodies just to have a team that would win more than five or six games.
Of course, too, for his first real recruiting class, Martin snagged two top-100 players--including #33 overall Sindarius Thornwell. He's also signed two more 4* and a 5* (#25 overall) PJ Dozier. So, let's not act like Martin is just "coaching up" a bunch of underachievers.
Martin also didn't walk into a situation with the preseason conference POY and eventual conference ROY and just really need to hustle a bit in April to add a couple decent players to make his first team a NCAA team.

The culture was bad at South Carolina
The culture has become bad at Memphis
It doesn't matter how long it's been bad the fact is its bad.

ACC...
Guess it was overrated
#2, #2, #3, #4, #5 all gone...Not one ACC team will outperform their seed line in this tourney. Hell only one has made as far as they should have so far.

Good points. There is a small footprint of a foundation with KJ, Markel, Jeremiah. But there's no full pipeline of 4 year players or consistency. And even those 3 are culturally and mentally weak right now. It showed in their inconsistent play.

He also admitted Corey Magette and Lance Thomas should have been ineligible and is willing to forego postseason play this season, and remove any Round of 32 banners.
