Thanks for sharing some details on this...I really will be paying attention to it, as it shows an interesting shift if it plays out like you seem to think it will.

Also - there are a lot here at LU that simply don't believe in a 6,000 year old earth. Even young earth creationists can't agree - is it 6,000 or 10,000? How can we be sure when biblical scholars don't even agree? The earth is 4.6 billion years old or so - I say that as a Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior. That line of thought is popular on campus.

*GASP* That's the first step to apostasy, I say! Repent!

95% of the students think YC is complete B.S. Ask any of them what they think of the History of Life class that they were forced to take. A joke, a waste of money and it's a theology class disguise as a science class. What's funny, there are two professors out of 30+ in the biology dept. that takes YC seriously and they basically teach all the creation courses. One is a complete whack job in DeWitt. I talked to one professor who basically thinks he's an idiot. I know two other professors who teach HOL for the extra $$$. They believe the earth is 4.6 billion years old. There are 5 total professors who teach the class btw.

As for the decision. It's not that they are changing there views on biblical creation per Se it's going to be taught just as a theology/philosophy course. Religion and ministry majors are going to be required to take it. Liberty wants to be a research university and they are revamping it's science department so thats the motive of its move. They're starting to invest research in medical and renewable energy.

What if we are all wrong and evolution was God's way of creating the earth? What if the earth is only 6000 years old but that's according to what God calls a day (maybe 1000 years equals a day) ?

Now this is the kind of info that gives me a more positive view of the school. I'll be interested in seeing how stuff like this filters through folks I interact with as far as their opinions on biology at LU.

Yes. We just built a new science building and want to use it to the fullest extent that we can. Add in the new medical school receiving (hopefully) full accreditation in 2019 and the sciences in general look good over the next 5-10 years. Young earth creation isn't a widely accepted theory on campus - really isn't. Again, even biblical scholars can't agree on the age...6,000 all the way to 10,000 years and some inbetween. When you have the type of discrepancy it says something about the underlying methodology used to "date" the earth using only the lineage of the Bible...

In reality - we don't care how old the earth is - we want to publish great research - if we need to ditch the 6,000 year old earth theory to do so..we're going to do it. Again...biblical scholars can't even agree on the age so we aren't too concerned with it. It doesn't change anything as far as the relationship with Christ is concerned anyway. God doesn't care how old the earth is. Where is your heart - that is what matters.

Apparently Liberty is trying to get a Notre Dame/ACC agreement. The SBC and CUSA are being the main ones talked about. Would y'all be interested in this? Would this be essentially a tryout for them to get into the conference if needed later on? I'm just looking to see what the pros and cons in yalls mind would be of agreeing to this.

How would this benefit the Sun Belt? We would give up a bowl slot in all likelihood, gaining a schedule opportunity with a school any of our programs can schedule anyway. I don't see Liberty as being a big draw at all. Besides App, our schools dont recruit Virginia heavily either.

This doesn't benefit CUSA either but it'd be better than a deal with the Belt.

There's No money available from their tv network.

App doesn't recruit Virginia either. Think we have zero or maybe 1 guy on the entire roster from VA.

Sean Price ruined that.
