Joe Goodman takes the same crappy attitude with every article he writes regardless of what his subject matter is. Probably mad that he has gone from writing for the Miami Herald to AL dot com.

RE: Fail for Birmingham or UAB?
There were 3 ticket specials this week for C-USA sponsored by UAB sports marketing department. 1. Wednesday was employee appreciation day and could purchase tickets for $12 with UAB ID. 2. Thursday is youth day and kids 17 and under can buy $12 ticket. 3. Friday is military appreciation day and can get discount ticket. But has anyone heard about any of these promotions? The ticket office said everyone is at BJCC. The sports marketing department won't answer phone either. They are much too busy at free buffet at Westin. I'm at the games. Every UAB employee I've spoken to said they knew nothing about promotions either. They are using Twitter apparently as only source.

Marketing is not marketing without a marketing budget. Social media is free so they are forced to go that route. The students and employees get the message, but apparently don't care. How many of the average birminghamians get UAB's social media blasts. It takes money to reach them, but they don't,have it.

Person answering calls at Alumni office said they knew nothing about these promotions. I spoke to lady selling tickets at BJCC. She said that they were informed about promotions on Monday. She flipped over her seating diagram and the memo about promotion was there. The writer of this story needs to clarify who really does not care about UAB.

Employees do not get these messages. You are wrong.

I meant to say you are wrong as usual. You respond way too much with almost on insight. I repeat, you are wrong.

They do if they follow UAB on social media, just as anyone does.

The youth promotion has not been announced anywhere I can find. I did see one twitter announcement Wednesday night sent on Monday for employees. It had fallen so far down list by that point. Regardless, not a very good way of communicating..

I would not bash Joe Goodman. He has written many pro-UAB articles including some critical ones during the football shutdown that helped our cause.

I would. He is a prick for stirring it up. Now every other CUSA school has something to talk about.

UAB is *giving away* 1200 tickets to employees with their ID. You had your choice of a first or second round ticket, i.e. yesterday or today. They were available at Alys Stevens or the BJCC. Probably some still are, because as usual, the promotion was poorly done.

It's just part of the fail that is college basketball in this state. Jax State made it but the rest of the state SUCKS. Alabama is irrelevant in the basketball world. At least we're not spending a fortune on stinking it up. We paid $1 million last year for an NIT road game and the SEC schools are paying millions for less.

& I should dare say that JSU may have averaged 750 fans at their games.

I don't think there was any buzz about the program before the NCAA tourney auto bid & I am kind of around there quite a bit.

While plenty of UAB female students love sports (Including my girlfriend) I would say that a larger percent of females aren't into sports when compared to men. I've also noticed that after the team started losing the frats at large have almost completely disappeared from the games.

To clear the matter, yes, it is very sexist.

many of UAB's best student fans are female.

We have had similar issues over the years and I think the fact that we are in the southern heart of college football is more of an attendance killer than female students.

RE: Fail for Birmingham or UAB?
Year 1: It was our first time hosting in ages so the crowd was good. Plus we finished the season 12-6 after the disastrous 4-9 start.

Year 2: Most wins ever (although it was artificially inflated due to weak-Haase schedule), regular season championship. Decent crowd despite early weekday tip.

Year 3: Tank the end of the season, embarrassingly lose to FIU, limp in at 7 seed, 5:30 start time...and everyone is surprised?

Maybe next year it'll come to Frisco, TX so I can make the drive up. 05-stirthepot

I would add to Year 1 that the football debacle had riled and rallied UAB students and supporters. Honestly, until March I was as interested in chanting to fire that silver haired SOB as I was in watching the basketball that season. The protests and the chants gave our team an edge that year they haven't been able to recapture.

I worked right of the last nine days and knew nothing about any promotions for UAB employees. No signs at work, no emails.....nothing.

It appears possible that the "from the top down" war on UAB sports programs is not over.
