This is not the usual for Carey. I notice a bit more early offers last year(for the 2017 class) than normal, but the 2018 offers even trump that. I wonder if the newer assistant coaches over the last 2 years are having an impact on Carey and his recruiting. We seem to be finally in line with at least getting offers out comparable to the other MAC schools.
I can say from second hand (well, third hand really, but the chain is reliable) word, offers are being extended earlier than ever. A local HS coach called on a MAC head coach whom he has a good relationship with about a current senior (it's not Carey, BTW). This was back in early December. This senior had not really received much interest beyond feelers & camps from MAC schools (he may have shot a little too high in level based on things he was told). Good kid, tough kid, but he was increasingly looking like he was going to be left without a chair when the music stopped.
Anyway, when the MAC coach was called about the kid, he just told the HS coach, "Coach, we're done on 2017. We've been done for a long time. Heck, we've got a pretty good idea of our 2018 class. Now, if you've got any 2019s you want to talk about, I'm all ears."
So, while we're seeing and speculating and it appears that there's all sorts of movement in the weeks leading up to signing day, it's less than what it appears. There's certainly some, but not what we think it is. While you never
know until signing day, the schools and the kids have a pretty good idea of who is in play and who isn't, who's locked up and who's still realistically on the board... and that process is playing out earlier and earlier.
