I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to make adjustments to the point totals. Placement in the volleyball conference tournament will break ties between teams that tied during the regular season.

How did Arkansas State and Coastal Carolina get 11.5, Texas State get 11 and UTA get 9? By my calculations, UTA should be half a point up on Texas State.

The way I read the scoring paragraph in the Bubas Cup page, the conference office does not differentiate between division opponents. If two teams have the same conference record, they will split the points for the two places they occupy. Arkansas State and Coastal Carolina had the same conference record (15-1), so they will split the points for first and second place (12+11=23. 23/2=11.5).

I caught the switch I did on Texas State's numbers. It's corrected.

That was more my point, if Coastal and stAte split 1st place, then Texas State should be at 10.

According to emails I have from the Sun Belt office the tourney results do play some small part in how Win-Loss ties are handled in divisional sports. I thought I had posted that in my own Bubas thread but the info is not there. I'll dig out the emails and post at some point soon.

Here is what was sent to me from the SB office when I asked about how points were awarded for divisional sports.

How Bubas Cup points are earned in sports with divisions:

9.2.1.1 - 12 points shall be awarded to the divisional winner that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.2 - 11 points shall be awarded to the other divisional winner.

9.2.1.3 - 10 points shall be awarded to the divisional second-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.4 - 9 points shall be awarded to the other divisional second-place team.

9.2.1.5 - 8 points shall be awarded to the divisional third-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.6 - 7 points shall be awarded to the other divisional third-place team.

9.2.1.7 - 6 points shall be awarded to the divisional fourth-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.8 - 5 points shall be awarded to the other divisional fourth-place team.

9.2.1.9 - 4 points shall be awarded to the divisional fifth-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.10 - 3 points shall be awarded to the other divisional fifth-place team.

9.2.1.11 - 2 points shall be awarded to the divisional sixth-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament or the sixth place team which has the best winning percentage.

9.2.1.12 - 1 point shall be awarded to the other divisional sixth-place team based on winning percentage or place in the placement in the tournament.

RE: 2016-2017 Bubas Cup - Completed Sports
The way the tiebreaks were explained to me for volleyball, the team that finished higher in the conference tournament would receive the higher points for the Bubas Cup. The tournament was not seeded by placement in each division, as Little Rock would have been the #7 seed by being the fourth place team in the West and having a better conference record than the East fourth place team, #8 seed Georgia State. Georgia State tied with Louisiana with a 6-10 record, but will receive the 8th place points (5) while the Cajuns receive 4 points because the Panthers were in the conference tournament.

South Alabama and Georgia Southern had 7-9 conference records and were knocked out of the tournament in the same round, so I'm understanding they will split 6th and 7th place points (6.5). Coastal gets the 12 points as they won the conference tournament. I'll post the points and standings now, and check with the office in the morning. I'll make any adjustments, if need be, after that.

1. Coastal Carolina (39.5)
2. South Alabama (33.5)
3. Appalachian State (29.5)
4. Arkansas State (27)
5. Texas State (26.5)
6. Texas-Arlington (25)
7. Louisiana (23.5)
8. Georgia Southern (21)
T9. Georgia State (20.5)
Little Rock (20.5)
11. Troy (13)
12. ULM (12.5)

Point totals and standings adjusted 11/22/16 after conference office posted on the website.

Don't worry, TXST and UTA will move up when (both) T&F hit and a few others when softball comes along.

Kind of had a rough Fall and not sure about either BB team at this point.

Wish we had enough schools and all had the money to have LaCrosse. Our MCLA team is kind of awesome.

Yeah we look to be trash in basketball this year. But softball, tennis, and (obviously) baseball will be good in the spring.

I think the winter and spring sports will be good for us. Our shooty-hoops teams should be good (maybe the men can right their ship or pull a stAte FB kinda thing). The indoor mens team is usually top three. The women have been stuck in third gear lately. Our tennis teams should be strong again with the returners we have. The golf squad returns talent. I'm expecting softball to improve tremendously this year and baseball is a crap shoot as always.

I just hate the fall for us. We score three of six possible sports.

I forget about tennis.Maybe because we're not usually very good and don't have a men's team. Golf? Don't know. We won WG last year then Teis promptly let the coach get away. MG, we have good individuals and fight for the title but fold like a wet blanket on day 3.

Randi Rupp (SB) tries out for the US National team in January. If she happens to make it I don't know what happens. I know Cat Osterman took time out of her UT career when she made it.

Lol. In all honesty, I think our team may be even more consistent this year than last. We peaked at the right time last year but kind of underperformed for most of it. We return 3/4 of our main Omaha pitchers and several of our younger guys have apparently made a lot of improvement. I think with the experience and confidence the guys bring back, they'll be more consistent this season and a top 10 team throughout.

RE: 2016-2017 Bubas Cup - Completed Sports
http://www.sunbeltsports.org/sports/2014...sCup.aspx?

I edited my previous post (#11) with the current standings.

The logic for just about everything done in this sport (volleyball) absolutely escapes me. They chose to have 8 teams in the conference tournament instead of all 12. They took the top 4 teams in each division, but, instead of placing them in the brackets by that placement, they seeded them based upon their overall conference record. Now, when they award the Bubas Cup points, they followed neither the method I was told when I called the conference office last week, nor did they follow the written method sent to McLeansvilleAppFan.

Coastal Carolina and Arkansas State tied with the same conference record, Coastal broke the tie by winning the conference tournament (12 and 11 points). Texas State had the next best conference record (13-3) and tied for third in the conference tournament so they get 10 points. Texas-Arlington had the next best conference record (10-6, 4th) but finished 3rd in their division. Georgia Southern and South Alabama tied for 2nd in the East (7-9 conference record, 6th and 7th best overall conference record) and were eliminated in the first round of the conference tournament (5th through 8th place), but were awarded points based upon a tie for 4th (8.5 points). Texas-Arlington received 7 points (6th place), despite having the 4th best conference record (by 3 matches) and finishing tied for 3rd in the conference tournament. Georgia State and Little Rock were both knocked out in the first round of the conference tournament and both finished 4th in their respective divisions, but Little Rock had an 8-8 conference record, Georgia State, 6-10, yet both were given a tie for 7th overall in Cup points (5.5). Louisiana had the same conference record as Georgia State and defeated the Panthers in Atlanta, but were kept out of the conference tournament because they finished 5th in their division. They were given the same points (3.5) as the other 5th place team (Troy), who had a 4-12 conference record. ULM and Appalachian State shared 11th place points (1.5) with 3-13 and 2-14 (respectively) conference records.

I don't believe any of the other sports have as diluted a method of awarding Cup points, nor have a complicated tiebreak system for their games/matches, so calculating Bubas from here on out should be relatively easy. Football has two weekends of games left. It doesn't appear that Coastal Carolina will lose their current place in the Bubas Cup standings as South Alabama will have to pick up 4+ points to pass them and Appalachian State can only tie with them after football. Indoor track and field comes up in late February.

RE: 2016-2017 Bubas Cup - Completed Sports
1. Appalachian State (40)
2. Coastal Carolina (39.5)
3. South Alabama (38.5)
4. Arkansas State (37.5)
5. Louisiana (30.5)
6. Texas State (27.5)
7. Georgia Southern (27)
8. Texas-Arlington (25)
9. Georgia State (23.5)
10. Troy (21.5)
11. Little Rock (20.5)
12. ULM (17.5)

6 sports down, a third of the way through the season, and you have the same leaders (plus newcomer Coastal Carolina) as you had at the same time last season. Indoor track and field comes up at the end of February followed by basketball.
