RE: Could Noland be headed to UT?
I just hope he has time to set up that new governing board with like-minded folks who will help them hire the right person. The TBR are the ones that would screw this up.

RE: Could Noland be headed to UT?
From the things I've heard, Noland definitely has his eye on a political situation - at some point - and maybe more the intermediate-term than the long-term.
Sort of like conference realignments, it's possible some dominoes may start getting played.
Wilsie has said she doesn't want that position, but it's not inconceivable she could be 'drafted', do it on an interim basis, or something along those lines. We could do worse than her, but that is indeed a "safe route". (And I'm well aware some/many of you aren't fond of her.)
Brian Nolands don't grow on trees, but I think we all knew that.
Things may start happening fast:
"the rest of the story"
" A search is expected to begin immediately after the Board of Trustees meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.
DiPietro said his goal is to begin preliminary interviews this summer and bring finalists on campus in the fall so he can make a recommendation to the trustees at the October meeting and have someone in place by the spring 2017 semester."

Ok. I just saw a suggestion in this thread that ETSU needs a law school. That is totally ridiculous. This area is overrun with young, incompetent attorneys as it is. Belmont just got accredited; LMU is going along; Appalachian I guess is still afloat. It's too many.

Talk about knee jerk. That was weeks ago. Run and tell the foreman before he diverts the precious football plans to a law school. While you're at it, replace "football" with "law school" in your thoughts and see if you sound like someone you don't want to.

I have no idea what your point is.

RE: Could Noland be headed to UT?
My point is that your knee jerk response to the idea of a law school was flippant and unappreciative of the parallel to football. Noland's "big" career move at ETSU has been to bring back football. It was suggested that he would see this through (let's state to the point of a fully completed stadium, all tiers). It was suggested he might also do something like a law school (and, not stated but something else I've heard suggested is a dental school). The reaction to a mere suggestion--"totally ridiculous. This area is overrun by young, incompetent lawyers as it is"--was highly unflattering. Many people against football at ETSU might utter something similar: "A multimillion dollar football program is totally ridiculous! We will never be UT or VA Tech. This area is overrun by enough football as it is."

The law school isnt going to happen, the market is indeed very saturated- that is just the truth and it has nothing to do with Noland

Dave Hart announces he will retire next June. So everything I was hearing was apparently true. Hopefully the Noland talk was just that...talk, let's hope.

It happened exactly how it should. Put the lawsuit to bed, and the leading parties exit stage left. Noland will be fine for this cycle.

RE: Could Noland be headed to UT?
Notice that Noland's "denial" yesterday was not exactly that. It appeared to be a PC statement (possibly) prepared by his agent. If you read or listen to the words very carefully, it's exactly what he's 'supposed' to say, but leaving open the possibility, if they seek him out.
He's not going to publicly lobby for the job, but possibly his agent could, or more likely his agent is getting a feel for the lay of the Knoxville land.
"Plausible deniability".
To be clear, I'm not saying he *is* seeking the job, just that his "denial" didn't strike me as anything close to absolute.

Noland to UT Knoxville may be picking up steam. From John Brice of GoVols247:
"Cleaning up some more on the athletics directors search, as well as that of the chancellor, and Tennessee still seems most intrigued with a Dr. Brian Noland/Dave Blackburn chancellor/athletics director combo. Noland is under contract at ETSU, and draws rave reviews; ditto Blackburn."
Another excerpt:
"But it’s the UT system, and Dr. Joe DiPietro likes both men, per multiple sources around the state. Also, there are indications Tennessee is poised to forgo its fascination with outside blood and look inward. Only time will tell, but Blackburn studying under Dave Hart to assume the mantle with Noland eventually working under DiPietro hardly sounds bound for a UT Knoxville campus all too familiar with the mine-shafts on Rocky Top from outside influences."

RE: Could Noland be headed to UT?
A total rumor but someone on Twitter tweeted that Noland turned down UT:
"Wow, President Noland turned down an offer to be chancellor at UT that would have doubled his salary. The man loves ETSU."

Take it for what its worth.

Something to monitor; Joe DePietro has resigned as the University of Tennessee system president. If you connect the dots it would seam to line up with Bill Haslam leaving politics that he would be in line for this.
Brian Noland was a finalist for this last time though http://archive.knoxnews.com/news/local/j...1831.html/
This is different by the way from the UTK chancellor job that Beverly Davenport is currently in.

Knoxville News-Sentinel story says Gov. Haslam has said he doesn't want the job. Speculation season begins.
A dose of reality here.
The UT system and UTK in particular is not on great terms with the Tennessee Legislature. While individual legislators may applaud DiPietro's retirement, it will be a difficult hire. President of the UT system is not exactly a destination job in higher ed realms. Don't misinterpret me, it is an okay job, but then there is the issue of dealing with the political realities of a Republican super majority.

Did I see Ron Ramsey driving back and forth in front of DiPietro's office with his music turned up?

Looks like the Chancellor position at UTK is open again.
