Panama, you still owe me an adult beverage for you guys losing to us last year.

So, what's the deal with turner field. How will it be retrofitted into a football stadium rather than a baseball field?

Magix

Actually the plan is to play in its as is in 2017 and then begin work on the building after the 2017 season.

So, with the Big 12 determining they won't expand, what does that mean? Is Jerry still confident that we will be FBS in a few months? I have heard some say the Big 12 decision is just the beinning of the end for that conference. Ince their GOR agreement ends the better teams will bolt for stronger more secure options.

I think Jerry was talking out his ass. It sounded really good to the audience but I just don't see how it will happen.

Likely lots of bluster. What conferences for a potential invite? What college prez/admins taking about forming another southern locale conference? What developments for seeking indy? It just seems like another knuckle head comment (sorry Knucklehead for the inclusion) without substance.

I've made my thoughts known on ever getting an FBS invite. I don't think it's ever going to happen. Indy is the only potential route and that's sticky as well.

However Georgia Southern would make a better addition to C-USA than Georgia State. Why?

1) Savannah is no worse than Birmingham on media market size
2) Savannah is an easy road trip for FAU, FIU , and charlotte
3) Georgia Southern has a much longer football tradition than Georgia State and would be quickly competitive in CUSA just as they have been in sun-belt.

Liberty's best bet I still believe in in C-USA not sun belt. C-USA wants JMU but JMU may not have the money or desire to move up. Liberty gives charlotte and old dominion travel partners.

Valid points on why GaSo would deserve a bid. The 800 lb. gorilla in the room, Atlanta, will drive the selection more so than a teams past accomplishments. Not saying it's fair, but what really is fair in the "business" of NCAA football and athletics. Academics yes, business no.

IMO Georgia Southern is more attractive to us c-usa fans, FAU just signed a home and home series with them for 2020 and 2021. Plus Georgia State has to compete with Georgia tech in the atlanta market.

As GaSt has righted the ship last year and this year and become a credible FBS FB program, the advantage has shifted to them. As the selections of Charlotte and ODU has shown, market size does matter. It is the primary factor when a program has a fundamental foundation.

I'm not sure I would call them a credible FBS football team just yet. 1-5 on the year with a win over a bad TX state team. Do they have potential, yes, but they've still got a long ways to go.

Not calling them a power house by any means but they have finally won FBS games (finally after years of failure and justified ridicule), and they did have a strong year last year. Now if their future performance tanks, as was the case in their initial entry into FBS, they'll again experience a setback and a be perceived as a less desirable candidate.

When App St. was overlooked behind ODU and Charlotte with their invite, that was a clear signal of where college prez and admins place their priority, which is first on population and market, and less on on-field performance for conference expansion.

Based on market size maybe, based on C-USA fans and the ability to field a competitive team heck no. So far they have had one non-losing in their history at 6-6 last year. They lost their bowl game to a 5-7 team.

Before Georgia State gets to move up they need to have won a conference championship. Even FAU as bad as it is now, was able to win a sun-belt conference championship. Charlotte was a past member of C-USA. Even Liberty has won big south championships and could make a better case for C-USA membership than Georgia State.

In a vacuum, if Liberty had Georgia State's season last year, it would be a disappointment to me. Georgia State made great strides for their young program but if it wasn't their 5th year playing football (or whatever) then wouldn't you be upset if your team lost to an FCS school and finished the season 6-7 in arguably the worst FBS conference? They were lucky to even make a bowl due to their upset of Georgia Southern in the season finale if I remember correctly.

Having said that, I would like Liberty to eventually be in a conference with Georgia State because they have great potential. They have a great location, aren't a directional school (like East Carolina, Central Florida, etc.), have solid academics, and appear committed to athletics. They have potential to be a future P5 school if they fulfill their potential and get some breaks. I don't see Georgia Southern like that; I see them as a Boise State program at best. That's admirable and extremely good but I think their ceiling is limited compared to Georgia State.

What is in Georgia Southern's favor is they have a passionate fan base which is what the networks want. The networks won't want to pay for Georgia State even if they are in Atlanta if they can't get people to watch their games. Would CUSA, the AAC, or someone else be willing to bet on Georgia State's potential? The Sun Belt did and I wager that another conference will too once Georgia State makes more strides.
