Suddenly I have this vision of Charles chasing the Louisiana Tech bulldog onto the field and humping it on the 50-yard line at halftime.

While that is definitely true, he doesn't get to make that decision. The judge will next week. If he goes up for adoption, I hope ODU does something to ensure he maintains his connection with the school.

I've heard the admin likes the dog, but not so much the owner.

Add the marching band with the flag dancers and you've got yourself a half time show!

I really want Charles to get out before we play VA Tech at Foreman Field...
Because then, we can do "Ice Cream and Cake" and the "Hokey Pokey"
and That's what it's all about.

RE: Charles the Monarch in the pokey
I thought for his first offense, the owner was given probation with suspended fine of like $1000 or more. It was big. I guess he will have to pony up. I think Charles is cool, but have been afraid of the news when he gets hit by a car. We were at the book signing event at the ODU Bookstore a couple of years ago and the owner opened the front door and just let him go out on Monarch Way on his own. I could just see the film at 11 of that one, "Charles the Monarch Killed By Car on Monarch Way During Book Signing". Bobby Wilder owns one of his puppies. He had him at Bark in the Park last year. Maybe Bobby could take him!

Agree with you 100%.
I've nearly hit that dog a half dozen times driving south on Colley, once way over by Granby St. A few years ago, had to call the owner as Charles was trying to get into the dog park in Colonial Place. No owner in site.

Sure it was cool to see that dog on TV and I'm sure it brought attention to our school for a day or two. But damn.

It's not the poor dog's fault.

To a point. Bad owner didn't train the dog to stay in the yard / it's territory.
Sure the dog is nice, but he's become a nuisance.
I was nearly rear ended on Colley and 42nd slamming my breaks because of him. A lot of close calls over the years have got me upset. When I go into the ODU book store and see the book the owner wrote it gets me upset that 1) the guy became famous as a result of him being a bad owner, and 2) should I(or the many of the other drivers in the area) have not stopped 1 of the times some kid somewhere would be very upset.

I hope the dog goes to a new owner. I'm sure it would crush the community should something bad happen to him.

BTW, I love dogs. I have my own and I foster for several groups in the area.

Agree 100%. As an animal lover and especially dogs, don't hate on the dog. He's just a dog. Hate the owner if you must hate.......

RE: Charles the Monarch in the pokey
That's just crazy. I walk my dog off a leash at my home and will let him roam a little when I'm out in the yard but I have several acres of woods surrounding my house and I still will keep tabs on him and call him back if I can't see him. Entirely too much traffic in Norfolk to be doing that.

The owner didn't actually write the book. A former ODU Professor and Bilogy Dept. Cahir, joseph Daniel did. I am sure the owner did make some monies off of it. The original book was funded by a GoFundMe campaign, so it wasn't a major book publication. There has been a second book. I don't really know anything about it. Apparently, the guy's daughter, who I believe the story went, is who the dog was purchased for, is trying to get custody of the dog. She is an ODU graduate. If she is willing to keep the dog contained properly, which it seems like that is her intention, I hope she can get him and potentially save his life.

Can't stand her dad. Talked to him a few times when I would go to Sams Subshop with my dogs. Guy was ..... well unpleasant.

Natalie is an amazing person and caring dog owner, I know this from personal experience. She wants what's best for the dog, a safe environment. I wish her the very best

So sad. I hope Charles the Monarch can go to the delinquent owner's daughter. She seems to care about the dog. Someone needs to do better by the poor thing.
