He is trying to kick the can down the road for 3 months & in turn give himself some time.

Hopefully he does not succeed in this quest.

My wife is a professor (not at UAB) and trust me, if there's one thing professors hate, it's committees. Whether they're on them or not. More if they are.

Committees, task forces, improvement teams, etc. all mean that somewhere someone in authority hasn't been doing their job.

That. Or trying to not have to do their job.

RE: Watts holding press conference at 2pm
From a phone call that Dan Harralson had with Watts, it sounds that Watts does indeed continue to see patients. I know this had been previously suggested before, but I didn't quite buy it. Why? Because you would think that president of a school like UAB is a full time job. How well can he really be doing his job when it's not a full-time commitment for him? It leads me to question even more how much Watts is even doing in terms of his leadership. Calling Watts a "puppet" may in fact be a fine description since he may be sufficiently busy/distracted with his clinical duties that someone (or multiple someones) may be making or at least guiding his decisions.

Do we have any idea how much time a week he spends in clinical work?

You would think $850k/ year would be enough to buy someone's undivided attention.

Just a guess, don't know for sure… but Watts' clinical hours could be pro-bono

A multi-billion dollar operation, such as UAB with a part-time president?

Please tell me this isn't true. If it is true, THAT alone should be TOTALLY unacceptable.

I don't care if he is paid for his clinical duties or not. The point is that his attention is not completely and entirely on trying to make UAB better. A school of UAB's stature should have a full-time president and not someone splitting time with clinical duties. If he wants to be a physician and see patients, be my guest. But he's not president material, and the more I learn about him the more that becomes abundantly clear.

True, but I thought this is a guy who is so busy he has to do his gardening in the middle of the night with a flashlight.

RE: Watts holding press conference at 2pm
The new theme that is being used Is "Forward". We can see this in the website, the creating of committees, Watts refusal to talk about the past and his comments about not looking to the past but going forward to the future. The strategy is is designed to give the masses something to latch onto while ignoring those of us who are seeking the truth.

Forward is another word for future and while the past may not be as good as people wanted they can be manipulated in the present by being distracted with the future. This is especially important when you have something to hide in your past. Watts tenure has been filled with failure, incompetence, and deceit so it make perfect sense for his team to try and create a feeling of new hope for the future.

Of course that future does not include Football at UAB. He can dance around the issue by claiming to be interested in a review of a flawed study but he chose his words very carefully so as to not open the door to the return of football in the new "forward" read future UAB.

This strategy must be resisted and fought not because we don't care about the future of UAB but because we know that past actions foretell future actions. Ray Watts has not truly admitted his true error. The only mistake he barely admits to is the failure of his communication but he still stands defiantly by his decision and refuses to answer questions about his decision making process. The question we must strongly put forth is how can we trust this man in the future when he refuses to discuss his damaging actions of the past?

RE: Watts holding press conference at 2pm
To me this has always been about more than football. Football is just the tip of the iceberg and a way to get those that are not knowledgeable on the side of BoT. It is very eay for the short sighted to say....UAB loses in football, trash the program.

Is Watts willing to bet his job on the outcome? What happens if the independent firm disagrees with the Carr report? Do we go two out of three to make a final conclusion? How harmful is it that all our players have gone and we have to start from scratch? CAN WE KEEP COACH CLARK?

This committee formed by Watts is just a smokescreen & a way for him to buy 3 more months.

The more important one may come out of a resolution passed by the faculty senate.

Any chance the other C-USA presidents publicly laugh him out of the meeting?

That's not the point. He is/was a neurologist first. He probably chooses to see patients to try and maintain his skills. Maintaining patient care is encouraged (and required for academic rank advancement) at most universities, and you must do a certain amount to maintain licensure and hospital/healthcare system credentialing. I'm a full-time, assistant professor, and I spend at least one day every two weeks in the operating room, and try to spend one day every week.
