Visions of Glory
At Arlington we can have great hope and optimism that our overall athletic programs will continue to achieve excellence. Under AD Jim Baker and his predecessor Pete Carlon, the 14 sports teams fielded by UTA have consistently won, or contended for conference championships. Unfortunately, the prospects for adding women's golf and soccer, and for reinstating football are less than clear.

President Karbhari has indicated reluctance to re-examine football untill the existing sports are more fully supported. If he really means it, now would be a good time for the President to set specific attendance goals. Perhaps this would be a good way to improve attendance at "grandstand" events, plus get a feel for potential support for football at UTA.

I doubt if we restart football before I am too old to see it. it chaps me that utsa simply decided to add football and got it done..now people out there consider them a "real" university while we (a much better school) struggle for respect.

Perhaps we struggle for respect in places like this, but, in the world, I don't think the football thing is relevant..... Not to us. Some folks try go make it so, but it just is not. Many, on fact, respect us for not having it. I guess it depends who one is hanging out with. Really, it is sorta silly. Only in America.

maybe so but without the financial expense of maintaining a football program and with 34,000 students paying the sports fee, it would be nice if we had a kick-butt team in at least one sport to rally around.

In the 'SBC Long Term Plan' thread on the main Sun Belt board, user FoUTASportscaster pointed out that UTA did announce back in April that they were adding women's golf, although its not set to begin until the 2017-2018 school year. Hopefully something comes out about women's soccer and football within the next couple of years.

At this point I could see sometime around 2020 the football team starting, and being full FBS members of the Sun Belt (or perhaps another conference) by 2025.

Yes, what you've stated is correct. Starting woman's golf was not necessary as UTA has always been Title IX compliant and it simply wouldn't make sense adding a non-revenue sport to the program.

Short-sighted, intermittently ADD people on this forum have been generally critical and impatient with UTA's lack of football sponsorship. However, considering UTA's growth in student enrollment (+43% from five years ago), shift in student demographics (more young, with higher academic credentials, increase in out-of-state and intrastate applications), economic role of $12.8 billion in North Texas, and the push for tier-one research status with the full support of UT's Chancellor and its Board of Directors (currently over $80 million in research), a completely overhauled administration with a strong mission which values collegiate athletics as vital part of marketing (compared to the pre-2000's minions and incompetent sheeple), I simply cannot imagine the university not sponsoring football in the near future.

I seriously don't believe UTA will remain in the Sun Belt by 2025. It will likely look to the west, versus the east, for affiliation.

Funny reading these threads. Good foresight.

Yes, these comments are very insightful. It would be nice if our new President were to come forward with FB news. Maybe after she gets over her current bout with covid.
