Over the years it always seems people come and go, but yet to see a group actually stay. I think football changes that, and I hope it does. But in most things in life, it's hard to bet against history.
Go Bears today! Let's beat Furman!
Couple of reasons. This is a ProBoards board. It's a good format. If it keeps up, I'll get a custom URL and set it up.
I'm just personally not a fan of the Mercer section being buried in here with a million other boards. And, as FUBeAR mentioned, I would rather have something that can be self moderated.
Also, you assume I have no game plan, but there is one.
Finally, I don't disagree with you about participation. I was a Mercer athlete. I know how it goes. But football has changed things and we need to take advantage.
All that being said, we are there if you want to stop by. Go Bears!
I'm sorry but I still don't understand it. Google search of "Mercer message board" brings this up as the top result. That's hardly buried anywhere. I also think this format looks much cleaner/professional that the ProBoard.
This board has been here for a decade for Mercer fans and has been constantly improving. I'm loyal to those that are loyal to me. That's what I would have a hard time turning my back on this place.
I think it's awesome you were a Mercer athlete, but I also don't know you or FUBear (who is backing you here). You guys show up and immediately want everyone to join your site. That's what makes me curious and question everything. Get what I'm saying? My tone is that of caution. Your post is an insulting one in many ways. You're leveraging the only board that has supported Mercer sports for a decade just to get people to jump ship to your board. It would be different if you guys had been here for a while to give us some assurance.
I'll tell you this -- I'm somewhat shocked that you have a group of people that have joined your board so far. I honestly don't understand that. They clearly aren't searching for a Mercer board (as noted by #1 google result). So where did they come from?
This is the biggest bandwagon time for Mercer fans -- which isn't a bad thing -- but that's the facts. I hope anyone reading this that wants to discuss Mercer sports would still join this board. Myself and a couple others on here are the only ones with track records to prove we won't disappear
I'll just address this and move along.
First of all, the intent was not to insult anyone. As I said, I've seen this board before, just didn't particularly like the fact that it's mixed in with all this other stuff and not moderated by a Mercer person.
Secondly, I'm not trying to leverage this board for anything. I won't speak for FUBeAR, but I think he was just trying to make people aware that there was a new board. There's no rule that there can only be one board. And people can certainly participate in more than one. I don't know why you feel this is a competitive situation. It certainly isn't.
Secondly, I'm not really sure what you're driving at in the whole section about "tone of caution". It sounds like, and correct me if I'm wrong (I mean that), that I have some kind of ulterior motive for starting the other board. I can assure you, I don't, other than the fact that I wanted to create something with a dedicated space.
As I mentioned, I also went to the personal expense of securing the upgraded board format as well as a dedicated URL, mubeardown.com . I don't know what would make that untrustworthy.
Aside from that, I also discussed this internally with the Director of the Mercer Athletic Foundation and people in Advancement and Alumni Relations, because I wanted to make sure everyone was cool with it. And they all were.
I'm pretty involved with a number of the existing social media outlets specific to Mercer, Mercer sports, and our alumni associations. I had never even heard of this board even though I'm regularly on those. Probably why we've managed to get the traffic we have in the short week or so it's been formalized. I don't know why you're shocked we've had participation. It's because I made an effort to go out and make people aware it was there. If any web property just put it out their and relied on someone finding them in a Google search, none of them would have any traffic.
It doesn't really matter either way. I'm committed to maintaining MUBearDown and keeping it rolling. I still don't understand why you've decided to make this adversarial. It's not Coke vs. Pepsi.
Like I said before. Thanks for your support of Mercer. We're there if you ever want to stop by.
