Quarterback Zadock Dinkelmann, the 14-year-old nephew of former Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, has made a non-binding oral commitment to play at LSU.
Dinkelmann, an eighth-grader at Somerset (Texas) Junior High School, won't be able to sign his national letter of intent until Feb. 7, 2018. He has yet to play a down of varsity football.
Detmer said Dinkelmann committed to the Tigers on Friday after receiving a scholarship offer from LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Dinkelmann is the son of Detmer's sister, Dee. Dinkelman's father, Johan Dinkelmann, played at Cincinnati.

His film looks very good. Has nice hands and appears technically sound as a blocker. He definitely needs to spend some time in the weight room to gain some size and strength but I feel a lot of MAC schools really missed out on a future starting TE. Great get for the Bearcats IMO.

LOVELAND – In winning the Ohio Division II state football championship, Loveland High School did not have to make much use of the strategy involving the forward pass.
When your offense features three 1,000-yard runners, you really don’t air it out much.
However, though sophomore Drew Plitt’s yards placed him sixth in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, he did have the league’s best quarterback rating. In his first season he threw for nine touchdowns and just two interceptions despite average just 92 passing yards per game.
Loveland’s leader in receptions was 6-foot-5 Jake Elfers. The senior followed up an 11-catch junior year with 17 grabs in his final prep campaign for three touchdowns.
In the postseason, he hauled in 10 more passes and a pair of touchdowns. In the great white-out in Canton, Elfers snared a football out of the air in the wintry endzone.
Armed with a 41-23 state championship, Loveland coach Fred Cranford began marketing players, like Elfers, via Twitter and other means.
“He does a great job promoting us,” Elfers said. “He obviously has relationships out there with everybody.”
At the same time, Vince Suriano, the University of Cincinnati’s director of high school and player relations, had his eye on Loveland’s No. 18. The former Anderson High School coach, after stints with Mount St. Joseph and Thomas More, now specializes in bringing in quality walk-ons to the Bearcats.
Once coach Tommy Tuberville started spring practice, Elfers was invited to visit a workout at the Sheakley Athletic Center. When he left, he had an offer as a preferred walk-on.
“I belief coach (Fred) Cranford set us up initially,” Elfers said. “I’d never made any contact with them.”
Elfers, whose father played football at Summit Country Day and Akron, also had interest from Georgetown (Kentucky), Malone and Findlay. All would have offered a financial package.
On the other hand, with former Loveland Tiger Jon Vincent on the roster as a long snapper, getting a chance with the hometown Bearcats was appealing.
“I’ve watched them my whole life,” Elfers said. “You watch them as a little kid and you dream about playing for them someday.”
The goal is to become Loveland’s next most famous walk-on .
“The history of our high school with walk-ons is significant,” Elders said. “Sean Flaherty at Boston College walked on and ended up being captain of the team his senior year.”
Tipping the scales at 225, it remains to be seen what Elfers will do at UC.
“I think they’re sticking with tight end as of now,” Elfers said. “There’s no telling after they get me in the weight room. What they like most about me is my frame.”
He also hopes to add to the Bearcats’ team GPA as an electrical engineering major. As aggressive as many football players are, most don’t take on such a demanding schedule.
“That’s something that interests me, just like football,” Elfers said. “I initially applied at UC just because of the electrical engineering program. Football was a bonus.”

The latest: Riggs, who lines up mostly on the defensive line at Auburn High, is still in the early stages but Cincinnati has gauged his interest. Though he admittedly hopes for an SEC offer, the Bearcats are currently in good shape. “I like Cincy a lot, it’s just kind of far,” he said. “I grew up watching (UC coach Tommy) Tubberville at Auburn, so it would be fun to play for him.”

The latest: Perhaps the least surprising prospect on this list, Henderson is coming off of a 2,000-yard, 100-plus tackle season in being Dale County’s Mr. Everything. SEC schools like Auburn, Alabama and Mississippi State are hot on his trail as well, and he’s headed to see Georgia for the first time this weekend.
