In all fairness CatMom that is what they were discussing, whether or not we'd be competitive enough to not finish at the bottom of the list.

EDIT: But the title of this thread is literally about who you think is better in football, I'm not really sure how to have that conversation for very long without it turning into an argument. You are dealing with a bunch of men here you know.

The Sun Belt conference has better coaches. App State figured out how to handle Monken's attack. No doubt most of the Sun Belt would have also. Not to say all would have the personnel to handle it.

You really figured out how to stop it when you lost in 2010, won by 1 score in 2011, and were lucky we didn't have kickers when you won by 3 in 2012 (we missed 3 FG's ugh).

The mess we put on the field in Boone last year is part of the reason I'm glad the previous offensive staff is gone. They were starting to make me lose faith in their ability to call a game. Even in the Florida game there were bad calls on offense, and our last TD was a bad play that worked because a defender happened to panic on our alignment right before the ball was snapped.

The last nine years GaSo has beat App State twice.
7 and 2 in our favor the last nine years. Yeah, I would say we were able to stop GaSo for awhile now.

You were talking about Monken. I was specifically mentioning those years.

Somebody's been reading too much Any Given Saturday and reading too much from the Sagarin ratings. But we shall see how that turns out.

Boy, tough for the Vandals to get any respect around here. Picked last or next to last. Does anyone expect them to win even 1 SBC game? Even against any of the FCS transition teams? Granted, Idaho hasn't done much to garner much to respect. Winning 2 games in the last two seasons would do that.

Not sure that is an accurate picture for the team this season though. They were the youngest FBS team last season with a difficult independent schedule (with a couple $body bag$ games). And a struggling offensive line and defensive secondary. The new coach is in his second year with his young-ins and took in like 17 JC kids to infuse some size and competition. This is a gamble, sure, but just might pay off.

Not saying the Vandals are going to make a run or anything, however don't be too suprised if they end up in the middle of the pack somewhere. Yes, I'm a homer, but, I think things are going to change at some point for the Vandals. And, we all know it's been awhile.

NONE of these predictions mean anything of course so underestimating a team is fine.

I hope NMSU does well and pull for them considering our shared recent history.
They lost 9 starters on defense and recruited all high school kids 6 QBS . Idaho returns 17 starters and a bunch of players gained experience last year due to injuries. Adding 17 JC recruits may backfire long term but should help in 2014.

Idaho has beaten only Temple and NMSU the last two years.
NMSU has beaten Idaho , Abilene Christian and I think one other FCS team.


I think Idaho wins between 4 and 7 games
Funny how short fans memories are and if you win you always will . The same if you have a bad stretch your team has no chance. Look at Southern Miss or Utah St , Ohio U for examples that coaching changes everything. Petrino took over a really bad situation and went young vs a tough schedule. I hope he is the coach and his decision to go with youth pays off.

Lol you guys asked for my opinion. Im holding out hope that we will exceed everyones expectations of us.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that if you are looking at conference records to determine order of finish I don't think it's THAT unrealistic (admittedly a bit hopeful though). In the last 6 years the 2nd place team finished between 5-2 and 7-1. I can see 6 wins in our conference schedule if we maintain a healthy turnover margin. Don't get me wrong though I'm still mightily pleased with a 6-6 season, but why shoot for 6-6?

I believe Texas State went 2-5 in the conference last year...So I wouldn't consider it a guaranteed loss.

No offense to any other team, but GS fans expect to win most of our conference games. Not that it will happen. We have a chance to win every conference game. I don't see any team that I would put as an an automatic loss. Now there are games that will be extremely tough. Away to txst and usa, also home against ulm and troy.
The Appy game is what it is.
I'm excited to have a schedule that has almost every game that will be competitive and fans will want to see live. Also, i predict we go at least 2-2 in ooc games.

For me the key factor will be turnovers. If GS in has a positive margin we win. Last year we turned it over a lot. I could also see us as low as 8th. We aren't pushovers, but neither is any other team.

I think most fans think their team will win most of their conference games. GS will be like TXST and USA last year, put up a good fight and fall short or pull some out. Depth and full FBS season are bigger factors then many think they will be.

I think GS will fair better than App though.

Eh I was going to add a note that if your team has a history of struggling it may not apply but I figure there could be some super fans that are optimistic every year.

I really can't wait for the season to start. I've got all my vacation days in, even for the Thursday games and plans to make 3 away games. Hope I get to them all.
