End of an era.. 1st with the record-courier, then with the kent state athletic dept. dave was a HUGE part of the ksu basketball experience. irreplaceable actually.. very sad about his leaving.

nothing against jacob pavilack, but be pales in comparison to dave.

this is a BIG TIME loss for ksu basketball fans 03-weeping03-weeping

also sad/disappointed that ksu AD didn't throw more $ at dave to keep him from leaving. i don't blame dave for leaving. angry that ksu atheltic dept can't see the bigger picture here. dave is the kind of guy that you don't let walk away from your program.

dave, if you're reading this.. one final wish: sign a 3-day contract (march 8th thru 10th) for $1. do color commentary for the mac tournament :)
Sorry to hear that for KSU but I imagine it's good for Dave so good for him. Dave seems like a really good guy and great ambassador to KSU. Where's he going?
I haven't posted in a while but this seemed to be a good topic to come out of retirement...

Frankly put, Dave Carducci is one of the finest human beings I've ever met. Aside from his unrivaled knowledge and passion for this university, he is more importantly a good person. He is caring, genuine and one of the most dependable people you will ever meet.

I will miss very much our road trips to Oxford, Muncie, Buffalo and any MAC city in between.

Dave helped me tremendously in 2011 when I first started calling KSU basketball games. His guidance and support means more to me than he will ever know. I am so thrilled he not only agreed to join me for the call Saturday, but that he got to go out with a win over the Zips.

Thanks Dave! Go Flashes!

What is his next step?
Dave, you are one of us. We are not many, but we make up for it with passion. I truly hope you will continue to join us as I have appreciated your work and devotion to the University that we all love. Thank you and good luck in your endeavors.

Spoke to David tonight and he has a few options and still figuring out what he wants to do.
I missed the story. What happened with Carducci?

Dave is overworked and underpaid and has always picked up the slack for the always short-staffed athletic communications department that is currently operating with two full-time employees. They can't keep a Director on staff (speaking of which, they are probably the only school in the country without a Director of Athletic Communications). The person in that position a few years ago left because she was being sexually harassed by the senior fiscal manager, and the last guy left because he used it solely as a stepping stone to get his next job in college athletics. However, Dave Carducci always helped out where he was needed year after year when that office was left short-handed and Joel never gave him any more money for it. Probably not even a pat on the back. It's just too bad they don't pay the people what they deserve to stick around. And sadder that Joel wants the department to be a "stepping stone" for all its employees instead of making it a place for them to stay and grow. Dave is a great guy and will be missed by all. However, if you ask around, he is just one of the many of the great people that the athletic department has lost because Joel can't see the value in his employees. I just hope they can get rid of Joel before KSU loses even more good people. But sadly, I think the damage has already been done.
Thanks, Kentastic. So, I assume Dave resigned.
I have fond memories of the pre-twitter days when Dave Carducci ran a blog for the RC. I listened to many road games and was part of what (back then) amounted to in-game chats. As a bachelor at the time I always looked forward to ordering Hungry Howies, drinking a bit of the Captain (which I believe Dave enjoyed now and then in his spare time) and listening to game while following the bolg. I specifically remember Brian Windhorst joining him for one game and taking questions from the readers.

Recently, I enjoyed listening to Dave call games with Ty Linder on 640AM. Best of luck in the future. I hope it involves covering athletics at some level.

YES
Thanks everyone... I really appreciate the kind words. They mean a lot to me.

I always joke that I grew up pushing my Tonka toys down the hallways of the M.A.C. Center, but that's true. My dad used to take me to Kent State football and basketball games in the 70s and 80s. I started covering Kent State in the 1990s for the Record-Courier, took over the KSU beat in 2002, and then left the newspaper business to join Kent State as director of new media in 2012.

Because of my love for the school and its athletic department, I took the job intending to spend the rest of my career at Kent State. I didn't know at the time, however, that I would fall in love with public relations and that my passion for storytelling would take on some new forms as I added skills like graphic design and video editing. I'm looking forward to using those skills to take a chance on doing something else.

Most of my career has been spent at Kent State. It's been a fantastic quarter century! I made some great friendships, built some cherished memories, and now I look forward to taking my own family to games and cheering on the Golden Flashes from the stands the way I used to do with my father.

Best wishes! And Go Flashes!

Dave
Sorry to see you go. Best wishes in your future
Man, this is a sad thing. I hope the KSU Admin realizes what this AD is doing.
David, you are amazing! Thanks for all you do. God bless you!
Thank you for all you've done, Dave, and best wishes for your future.
