This road trip will establish where we truly stand. We have properly dispatched the recent cannon fodder opponents. I wish the CUSA tourney started next week the way we’re playing - gotta like where we sit and our chances. And I look forward to Giddy and King moving on after this year (and Johnson/WKU). You take them out of the equation and we own this conference.
We are now 4th in the Nation in scoring defense. UVA is No. 1.

FWIW - We are playing very well although as you noted against teams that are not very good. Agree again, that some folks are moving along after this season that as an ODU fan I will be happy to see gone like Giddy & King. Stansbury/WKU worries me for next year b/c I assume he will "amaze" with his recruiting again - until caught - if he is caught.* *Worries me that all the FBI stuff keeps talking about the P-5 big dogs and no mention of the G - 5. Still, the waves Stansbury made this year with his "amazing" recruiting hopefully got their attention. Marshall actually worries me a lot for next year. They gave us all we could handle, at home, with their star center injured and not playing at all. I think I am right and they have everyone coming back plus a lot of their top reserves so they will be a tough outfit next year. As to our Big, Major, Epic, Road Trip. Alas, I am not optimistic. As I already noted Marshall almost took us without Penava and now we have to beat them with him at their home. I always admit I am just a fan and not the expert some on here seem to be but WKU just looks to me to be a better team than we are (possibly b/c we don't cheat in recruiting). So my bottom line is I think we have a decent shot at Marshall but if I had to put $$$ on our swing I would go against us for both games. Hope I am wrong and feel free to explain alternate analysis with opposite outcomes. Go Monarchs!
We have been top 10 NCAA scoring defense all year. After the 33 point game, we are now holding teams to 62.0 ppg. To show how good UVA is, they are a full 10 points ahead of us, which is crazy because we are awesome!

I'm picking ODU against Marshall for the simple fact that we are so much better now, one month after we last played Marshall. Our guards are playing lights out. All of them. And we are now inserting Godwin in a little here and there. Another threat for the opposition to worry about. And Caver is playing like an al American. Remember back when Drew Williamson played those three tournament games with no turnovers? Well as DaBig posted elsewhere, Caver in his last 5 games is averaging 8.2 assists, 2.4 steals and has committed ONE flipping turnover in FIVE games. And oh yeah, averaging 14.5ppg while doing it.

The team is playing like a team on a mission.

WK I gave as a pick em.
Marshall has no defense. Like zero. Im prolly more confident than i should be. Watching them vs us, I never got feeling they could hang when we were focused. They got back in game on stupid free throws and a stretch of 3s. They didnt look athletic at all. We scored and rebounded downlow almost at will.

Not an easy game bc they are decent and at home, but they arent on our level.

I agree - I don’t feel good about this road swing either. But I like that it will define this team and the season (especially after early conference disappointments against Middle and WKU). We could easily lose...or win both games. Marshall (Elmore in particular) came out flat at the Ted, and I’m sure they’re going to be motivated to pay us back after a disappointing performance. Although our defense was tight - so was their performance flat or did we produce the result? Hard to tell, but this week will be insightful. WKU was the better team last time we played, but again Caver, BJ, and most importantly Haynes were off - and I don’t credit that to WKU’s defense. We had open looks but just didn’t knock down the shots. I think this road trip will truly define this team and season. I hope we and our competition play their best games this week - and let the chips fall where they may/define who we are.

And make no mistake - win or lose on this swing, we are MONARCHS! GO BLUE!!!
Giles- Might want to take a look at Kenpom. Marshall is 5th in adj d. This is going to be a battle. The question is...How many free throws will Marshall shoot in this game?

152 in adjusted D and they actually benefit in adjusted D because of pace
Marshall lives and dies by Elmore’s performance. We contain him and we win - we don’t, then we lose. We shut him down last time. I was surprised how poorly he played/shot last time. He just had an off night. I’m expecting a much better performance this go round. Should be a slug feast of a game.

It’s great to have these games ramp up the rivalries.

6th in the nation in turnover margin.

I'm more concerned with Burks than Elmore.

Speaking on our recent performances, UTEP is bad, but UTSA is no slouch and La Tech at home can be tough. We're playing very well now.

Agree.
I'm more concerned with Stith,Stith,Haynes, Porter and Caver. We come ready to play, we win!
This game scares me but not like any other game where I knew we were head and shoulders the better team and didn't want a let down. I'll take wins however we can get them this week but I'm afraid of us gettin ran out the gym..

La Tech has the 5th best home court winning percentage, even better than Kentucky. No easy place to get a win.
If we play like we have been, we have a great chance to win. Our D will bring it, but will the refs lets us play on the road? And more importantly, will our shots be falling? Thats been the biggest difference over the last couple games. BJ, Haynes, Caver and even Godwin have been shooting well. If we hit a good percentage of our shots and we don't get in foul trouble we have a great chance. Otherwise... could be trouble.
We're going to the games, so I hope we can cheer the Monarchs on to two big wins!
