I understand that last year our players were saying our best hitter was sitting out (obviously referring to Reynolds). So far, its hard to argue with that. Eagle baseball appears to have some of the most impressive hitting talent ever.
I got his HR and delivered it to his parents. That’s what Roost people do.
If you heard his postgame interview then you know how much that meant to him.
Not good enough to play full time in the SEC I guess!03-lmfao
Don’t forget we have another State guy coming in next year. Brant Blaylock. Cannizaro cut him then he transferred to NWCC this year. Will play for us in 2019. For some reason, he was cut but they kept Tanner Poole who is terrible offensively. Apparently they kept him for his defensive ability. I don’t know anything about Blaylock’s defense but I do know that Poole dropped a routine fly ball on Sunday afternoon.

I think Cannizaro is really good but he had a lot of questionable moves with the roster. I don’t know why he cut Harrison Bragg (big power bat from the right side). With MSU having very little pop in their lineup, he would have been a difference maker. He also got rid of Noah Hughes (RHP) who is now at Hinds. I would love for us to make a run at him. Very highly touted arm coming out of HS.

Brant Blaylock is going to be a helluva player for the Eags.

Don't count on Reynolds coming back next year, and blaylock can get drafted also.

^^^^^

if they do stay/come, he's right......I'm easily not holding my breath on either playing for us next year....
Reynolds is almost certainly gone after this season. He'll be 23 by draft day and he already has his degree. No reason for him to stick around another year.

Unsure about Blaylock. He was high on some 2018 prospect lists before the '17 season.
Blaylock also throws in the 90s with his fastball. Could be our stopper next year if Wallner moves to the rotation.
3 home runs in the DH today for the Southaven Slammer. Up to 13 for the year. #BlaylockWatch

Tack on 2 more home runs for the Southaven Slammer. Up to 15 for the season.

Reynolds finishes regular season at .403
When was the last time we had a player finish .400+ ?

Jarrett Hoffpauir hit .405 in 2004. Michael Artman hit .408 in 1999. Reynolds ranks 6th currently in USM record book. Here’s the only .400+ hitters in school history based off a minimum of 75 at bats in the season

1 Plunkett .453 (1974)
2 Tommy Davis .409 (1994)
3 Artman .408 (1999)
4 Plunkett .405 (1973)
4 Hoffpauir .405 (2004)
6 Reynolds .403 (2018)
7 Jeremy Scheid .402 (1997)
Wilson Plunkett (I know..I know here we go again with the good ol' days)...another one of those all-around athletes we used to have...He used to tape measure (if we even had a tape measure!) them outta the old ballpark that was tough to negotiate in right field (it was also the practice field then, just as it is now)...

Drafted high with Yankees but never panned out.....

And you really can't understate how significant it is that Reynolds is doing this with the new bats.

Picking a random year....in 2009, 68 guys in D1 hit .400 or better.

This season, that number is 10.

Hitting .400 now is the equivalent of hitting like .440 10 years ago.
