Hi, my name is Reese Rosales, a junior from Lovett College and occasionally Sammy the Owl! I am a part of a group of five Rice students working to support local ASPCA animal shelters as part of a business class project. We are excited to include the Rice Athletics community in our mission to ensure a more enjoyable quality of life for our four-legged friends throughout the city!

We are accepting tennis balls (new and used) and monetary donations all weekend long (February 16-19). We will have a booth set up at Saturday’s Women’s Tennis match vs. Houston (11 AM) and the Men’s Basketball game vs. WKU (7 PM).

The tennis balls will provide an awesome toy for animals in the shelters, and with thousands of animals in the shelters, no tennis ball will go unused! The monetary donations will help with feeding and medical treatment of animals in the shelter, as well as providing equipment for rescue services throughout the city! A donation of just $25 feeds 1,000 animals for one night, and $100 provides essential medicine to keep the animals alive.

We hope to see you at our booth at one of these games!

If you are interested in donating but won’t be attending either game, we can arrange to accept donations on campus on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. Our fundraiser ends on Tuesday, February 20, so act now to help animals in need! If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or email me: jrr9@rice.edu.
Also Rick Mello who when he was in Florida was very active in shelter activities and several years ago wrote a very nice (and appreciated) op-ed piece in the Galveston Daily News in support of the Galveston Island Humane Society.

Thanks. I didn’t have time to find the link when I made the post.
Had a great time watching the Rice Women beat UH this afternoon! Look out for us tonight at the Men’s basketball game! We’ll have candy and raffles for gift cards!
