CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior forward Gary Clark (Clayton, N.C./Clayton HS) has been named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Late Season Team.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the 30 men's players tabbed to the late season team on Wednesday. From this list, 10 semifinalists will be revealed on Feb. 28, and only those 10 players are eligible for the group of four finalists, which will be released in mid-March. Fans, once again, will be able to vote for their favorite player by visiting naismithtrophy.com/vote between March 19-30 to cast their ballot, and the fan component counts for five percent of the overall final vote. The 50th Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded on April 1 in San Antonio, during the NCAA Men's Final Four.
Clark, named a finalist for the Karl Malone Power Forward Player of the Year Award last week, averages 12.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor this season for fifth-ranked Cincinnati (23-2, 12-0 American).
Dominant on the glass, Clark ranks third in the nation with 1,038 career rebounds. He is one of five players in school history to achieve at least 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career. He is the school's all-time leader in career starts (126), 21st in career points (1,319), fifth in career rebounds (1,038), career blocks (170) and consecutive games played (128) and is tied for eighth in career wins (98 with Jason Maxiell [2002-05]). Clark's 27 career double-doubles are the most during the Mick Cronin coaching era (since 2006-07). He is also on pace to become only the second player in school history to lead his team in rebounds in four consecutive seasons (along with Yancy Gates [2009-19]).
Clark has been named The American's Player of the Week three times this season (Nov. 27, Jan. 22 and Jan. 29) and to the league's weekly honor roll once (Dec. 18).
A Senior CLASS Award candidate, Clark was named to preseason watch lists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and the Lute Olson Player of the Year Award and was tabbed second team all-conference by AAC coaches.
