Absolutely heartbreaking news. Talk about a player that was loved by nearly everyone associated with the program. Way too young.
Quote:Indianapolis Colts player Edwin Jackson was one of two people killed early Sunday after being struck by a suspected drunken driver along Interstate 70.
Quote:“We were heartbroken to hear the news of Edwin Jackson’s passing. Edwin was loved by all in the Colts organization. We admired his outgoing personality, competitive spirit and hard-working mentality. He was well-respected among all with whom he crossed paths, and he will be greatly missed in our locker room and throughout our entire organization. We also understand that another person lost his life in the accident, only adding to our sorrow on this day. We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both men during this difficult time.”
heartbreaking. There’s no other way I can describe it. I remember rushing the field and lifting him up on our shoulders after beating ULM in 2014. Watching him play was truly a blessing. I’ll be thinking about and praying for his amazing family.
"Edwin was nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy, which nationally honors former walk-on players who have made significant contributions to their school's team.
He was also nominated for the Wuerffel Trophy, which acknowledges players who show exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Also, Edwin was nominated for AllState Good Works Team for his volunteer work at a local Statesboro elementary school, and hosting a football clinic for children in Costa Rica during his Christmas break.
Lastly, Edwin competed in the prestigious Medal of Honor Senior Bowl in Charleston, SC after completing his senior year.
RIP#40 It's incredibly sad when anyone loses their life in such a tragic way. But it's uplifting to my spirits to see the incredible outpouring of love and support for a young man that truly exemplified Erk Russell's "Do Right" in everything that he did. He was always smiling, always helping, always pushing everyone to do their best. When superstars in the NFL and national media know the name of and are tweeting out their support and love for a former walk-on who was undrafted and then becomes an NFL starter, it shows how his life touched all of those around him. He will be sorely missed.
May he RIP, total shame to be taken from this world. What makes it even worse was the drunk driving the vehicle that caused this accident was an illegal immigrant wanted for deportation with no driver license. He shouldn't have even been here to cause this.
"Cabrera Gonsales didn’t have a driver’s license, tried to flee the scene of the accident and had a blood-alcohol level of at least .15 (nearly twice the legal limit), authorities said.
The booking document, which specifies that Mr. Cabrera Gonsales has a detainer request on him for deportation."
