Our 3 point defense has to be some of the worst in the country
I was going to go to the W&M game in Williamsburg on Thursday but I haven't seen anything different from this team to make it worthwhile. Really bad defensive scheme and lots of missed layups.
We were 334 out of 351 teams going into today. After giving up 14-30, we should fall in the rankings.

Another disturbing trend is that Northeastern had 24 assists while we had 8.
According to the RPI rankings we were ranked 311 of 351 on January 6th. The only CAA team ranked below us is UNCW. Mostly MEAC and SWAC teams fall below JMU in the full ranking list.
Prediction....1 year from now a lot of people will be calling for a coaching change.

I don't think it's going to take that long. I was hoping Rowe would work out in the same way that Kenny Brooks did. Not looking great right now.

If people want to say GOAT HCLR needs to get the boot, that needs to wait until midway through CAA play next season. If we're still an unfortunate dumpster fire, I wouldn't object to a midseason dismissal in hopes of getting a jump on the coaching carousel.

But for now, I love him & he is the greatest ever.
JMU fully funds a lot of sports and our commonwealth winning percentage is impressive.

We should be happy with anything, whatever we get.

Just root
Wilson is starting to show some nice numbers.

A 6'7 260 freshman is rare for JMU. It's usually 6'7' 162 or 6'7' 360.

Give Wilson some minutes LR.

I'll always root for Lou, but think and said at the time it was a real bad hire. There will not be and should not be a reason for a mid-season dismissal based on on-court results. The only reason he was selected is because they could not get who they targeted, and hoped Lou would at least get the emotional support of older JMU fans.

Lou will easily be safe for 3 years. Would be safe for at least 4 years if not for the new arena. While it makes me sick saying it - Based on history of this administration, I'd think 13 to 15 wins next year would keep him as the coach heading into the new arena. Could you imagine a first year average attendance at less than 4,000?

I'm guessing there will be some higher price seats they will hope to be selling...

Do you mean JB can't put together salary packages for a basketball coach and a football coach? Maybe we did empty the coaching salary coffers on Houston and we end up back in the Brady situation, "why fire any coach if all we are going to do is show small?"

A new arena puts pressure on JB.

I like LR. I remain hopeful that he turns the program around.

I'm saying for whatever reason we were not able to finalize an agreement with our targeted hires such as the UVA assistant. It might of even come down to our lack (at the time) of paying COA(thanks Alger). That would hinder recruiting for a new coach. There is no doubt they did not let go of Matt Brady to hire one of his lower assistants - Lou Rowe.

I thought Brady had plateaued, and it was time for a change - but not to hire Lou. I'd have kept Brady over hiring Lou without a doubt. Never in a million years would I have suspected they could of made that bad of a decision. There was nobody in division 1 college basketball considering hiring Lou Rowe as a head coach. I know Lou , like Lou, and think he was a great player and is a class person. But - awful coaching hire. My feeling - as good a hire as Houston was, Rowe was just as bad for basketball.

I hope Lou is the best HC in JMU basketball history, but my opinion on the hire has not and will not change. This was not plan A or B for JMU. May have even been lower than plan G.

Because they knew they were settling when they hired him?
Or because he deserves more dignity because he's one of our own greats?
If it's number 2, I would argue that would be at the expense of the best interest of the program.

Both 1&2

There have been many decisions at the expense of the best interest of the Men's basketball program in my opinion the last 20 years.

It was not so easy to take such a storied and well supported program down to this current level of support. It's beyond amazing in a bad way. From the coaching hires, retentions, and detrimental changes to atmosphere in the Convo (neutering band and putting in risers). For everything football has grown to, men's basketball has been the mirror opposite.
I have always wondered why King and JB go cheap on MBB salaries. Even Brady was the bottom third of the CAA pay scale.

I expect JB will allow LR to at least coach the first season in the new Convo before firing him which means we have two mores seasons of bad defenses.
The decision to hire Lou could not have come at a worse time given the $!00 million investment in a new Convo.

Maybe we learned something from the new baseball stadium and failure to capitalize.

There is a negative perception in the coaching ranks regarding King/Alger/Bourne. This has been evidenced with comments from Mickey, Brady, and Withers.

Maybe Houston could help change that.
I've been supportive of Rowe last year and this year giving him the benefit of the doubt. The quality of player is significantly better this year - so he can recruit. Just wondering if he is being too rigid with his "system" of defensive principles that he keeps talking about. Where did he learn it? Are there examples of quality wins from programs who have played in that style? There are too mismatches, easy layups and wide open 3 point shots being given up. Whatever is going on, it isn't working with the defense they play. I like the attacking style on offense. The guys just need to be better about making layups and shots around the basket.

There's a long way to go in this season. Teams frequently flip a switch and excel at some point in a season. Just have to wait and see this year and next.
