Before Monday, I didn't hear too much about UCF being "robbed" out of a playoff spot. If Danny White was so confident, he should have been saying this stuff to the nation starting on selection day. But now that they won, he is acting like he knew this all along.

Thats a little misleading. I think becasue the Selection Committee has so much power, the tendency of voters is now to try to mimic the thinking of the committee rather than to think for themselves. If the human polls were again part of MAKING the decision rather than just an academic exercise--I think you would see them track differently. As I said, just a few years ago (2011)--UH had a resume VERY similar to UCF's 2017 resume. At that time, UH was ranked #6 with just the CCG left to play. The only real difference between now and then was 4 years of Selection Committee indoctrination.
Here's the 1-2 reality ...
1) No UCF fan believes UCF should have been top 4 pre-bowl, but #12 was a direct insult
2) UCF President Dr. Hitt agreed to the "National Championship" as a direct result of the CFP's post-Peach Bowl comments "re-justifying" UCF's #12 ranking
Most UCF fans thought #6-9 pre-Peach. Even BCS had UCF #7 -- #3 for computer, #10 in AP. Putting UCF #18, then #14, and even considering a 4 loss team head of UCF at #12, before they finally put UCF #12, was exactly what Scott Frost meant by, "They didn't want to rank UCF too high, in case more losses came."
Although UCF AD Danny White jokingly mouthed the "National Championship" claim on TV, it was UCF's President Dr. Hitt that caused this to really go forward. Dr. Hitt, after hearing the CFP head honcho directly say UCF deserved its #12 ranking, and should basically be thankful they got the Peach Bowl, further insinuating UCF wouldn't even make a 8 team playoff, was beyond pissed off.

What we have now and turning back the clock are not the only two options. A real playoff is a real solution, and can be done. Just because the people who used to say a +1 model like we have now was logistically impossible now say a bigger playoff is logistically impossible doesn't make it so.
Yes, the bowls will be greatly diminished, but I think a real postseason tournament would be more gratifying than a bunch of exhibition games.
Why stop with UCF? Let's have Auburn (2004), Penn State (1994), Tulane (1998), Boise State (2006 and 2009), TCU (2010), Utah (2004 and 2008) and Marshall (1999) also be recognized as national champions too.

It has never happened to such a large school in the social media era. That's why it is a big freaking deal this go around.
UCF has a case to argue as I mentioned earlier in the BIG bowl thread. The CFP rankings were pretty close, particularly toward the top, as to what the AP and Coaches polls showed. I don't believe the selection process is as conspiratorial as some express.
Panel selections will, more often than not, have controversy as to the teams that are picked each year.
It can get exasperated post bowl games because further results are observed. Unless everyone plays the same schedules, which is impossible, during the regular season,
subjectivity and value judgments are ingrained.
I'd prefer not to see human panels doing the absolute determinations. At least the FCS has a more inclusive system. Then, there's the NFL model. It is human judgment, as to the four best vs going with conference champions, with conferences becoming more equivalent in size, scope, etc.
Three big factors that create this dilemma: (a) forced and promoted P5 separation from G5 in multiple dimensions; (b) conference sizes and scheduling vary immensely, and © the profiting interests want the playoffs AND the bowl games. That has been a conflicting element from the get-go.

Yup. The CFP played this completely wrong. Should have just admitted they blew it and "promised" to reassess the way they judge G5's (in other words, do nothing different going forward). Instead--they brainlessly insisted they were right---when everyone in the audience knows they were not. Now they have just exposed themselves to be the arrogant buffoons they are really are and they are rightfully getting called out for it. I guess they just couldnt hide their true nature.
