Detroit Message Board
This could be a trap game coming only 3 days after a bitter loss to Xavier and 3 days before a very tough Georgia Southern team.

Detroit Mercy, 4-7, 2-2 at home. On a 5 game losing streak. Only D1 win over 5-6 St. Louis by 2 on the road, 72-70. Currently rated 300 by KenPom. Preseason were rated reasonably: #188 by Sports Illustrated (3rd in Horizon) compared to #192 for Fordham, #177 for Fort Wayne and #169 for UNCG. They have a road loss, 82-91 at Fort Wayne. Bucs have a home win over Fort Wayne 83-73.

Games are high scoring (86.5) but more so for opponents (91.5). Hit .450 FG% but allow opponents .474. Hit .348 from 3 (9.3 makes) but allow opponents .371 (9.0 makes). 6-9 225 F Kameron Chatman will pop out to shoot 3’s - .440 with 2.0 makes per game. They get outrebounded by 5.3. Have an edge in steals 7.9 to 6.2 and a slight positive t.o. margin of +0.2.

They just might want a little pay back for a 107-78 thumping at Freedom Hall last year.

6-3 206 So guard Corey Allen with 18.0 points on .426 from 3(2.4 makes) and 3.5 rebounds; and 6-9 225 Rs-Jr F/G Kameron Chatman with 17.9 points, .440 from 3 (2.0 makes), 8.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals are very productive players

Got to take care of business and wipe away the taste of Xavier. Don’t fall into the trap.

Guards:
#5 6-3 206 So. Corey Allen, 31.9 minutes, 18.0 points, .426 from 3 (2.4 makes), 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.3 turnovers, 0.8 steals [only scored 5 against the Bucs last year]
#1 5-10 175 Fr Jermaine Jackson, 32.5 minutes, 11.3 points, .282 from 3( 2.0 makes) 3.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.5 turnovers, 1.8 steals
#23 6-1 174 Jr Josh McFolley, 26.5 minutes, 10.9 points, .308 from 3 ( 1.5 makes), 2.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 turnovers, 1.8 steals [Got 25 points against the Bucs last year]
#4 6-2 185 Sr Deshawndre Black, 15.6 minutes, 4.7 points, .333 from 3 (0.7 makes), 1.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 turnovers

Front Court:
#0 6-9 225 Rs-Jr G/F Kameron Chatman 31.0 minutes, 17.9 points, .440 from 3 (2.0 makes), 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.0 turnovers 1.2 steals [did not play against Bucs last year]
#21 6-7 260 Sr F Jaleel Hogan, 16.5 minutes, 8.8 points, 0 three’s, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 turnovers
#2 6-6 235 Gr F Roschon Prince, 14.0 minutes, 4.9 points, 0 three’s, 2.9 rebounds, 1.0 turnovers
#25 6-9 220 Jr Gerald Blackshear, 9.9 minutes, 3.2 points, 0 three’s, 2.7 rebounds
#13 6-9 240 Fr Jack Ballyntyne, 9.3 minutes, 1.4 points, .182 from 3 (0.2 makes) 1.9 rebounds
I always look to see if you mention a big man who can pop out and shoot three's, if so we know what type of game Jurkin will have.. would like to see Jason Williams have a nice game here, probably will be in front of a lot of family and friends
Peter Jurkin versus Northern Kentucky II: 21 minutes, 10 points on 3-4, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist and 1 t.o.. Despite 6-7 240 McDonald being very good at hitting 3’s. That was much better than Peter’s first experience with NKU.

This is Peter’s first season of serious game time. He’s still a work in progress.

Yes, but the asterisk there is that McDonald was in serious foul trouble, and sat most of the first half, and never got into any rhythm.
Still, fantastic game.

And like Fordham, yes, Detroit likely will be wanting some payback for the smackdown from last year. Seems like they've also got a lot of new faces.

Always interested in how a team responds after a tough loss and the last one was a doozy. I hope that the team comes out angry and motivated. If they play defense as they did in the beginning of the last game, there aren't many teams that can stand up to that sort of barrage.

Love coach's comment at the end about the SoCon and their "infinite wisdom" lol..

I actually went and looked, the only team that does not have a 3 game road stretch of away conference games is Furman.. most teams have atleast two, Furman has 0.. hmmm

Last year Furman had two three game conference "road trips." Each of the three seasons previous to that they had three game conference road trips also. There is no big conspiracy.

Hah, that's what the 'fake news' media would like you to think! In fact, Furman rules the world from a pizzeria in DC. Sad!

Maybe our Furman friend misses the point? Since he brings Furman in to the mix, how many 6-7 hr bus rides does Furman have through the holidays? Our three game swing begins with an long bus ride to Mercer December 30, then a long bus ride back home on New Years’ Eve. The only day off is New Years’ day after the long bus ride back. Then then a long bus trip to Birmingham on Jan 3, then overnight to Chatt, then home on the 6th. That’s a lot of travel in a single week. And it’s holiday travel. Nice reward for winning conference last year. Lucky us.

P.S. Have a furple holiday.

Maybe that's why they did it. Don't want us winning again. 05-nono

Conspiracy or not this team is road tested so I'm not too worried about it.

I'll second that thought. At times last year, Williams looked very much like the freshman he was. Now, it looks like he's put in a lot of hard work, and under the guidance of this coaching staff, he looks more and more like he will be a solid contributor this year and beyond.
Williams will be a Day One starter next year if he continues his improvement.

I hear ya. I think this is most definitely a 'trap' game. I'll be quite pleasantly surprised if we come out strong. That would tell me tons about the character and resiliency of this group.
Dang, no Payne tonight, for some reason

Edit: Sprained his ankle yesterday in Practice, also, McCloud battling a bug
