Heard Bowen on this morning and he said that the LB contract w/ AAC only permits Memphis one appearance in the Liberty Bowl regardless of future openings.
So the heavy handed SEC throws Memphis a bone.

Doesn't the current contract expire in two years (after the 2019 season)?
So is this an example of "the man" keeping us down?

Just listening to Bowen, he made it sound like it was Memphis' idea, or at the least, Memphis is cool with it.
I don’t think it’s good for the bowl or the university to have Memphis in the Liberty Bowl every 2-3 years.
So this will be our first and last appearance in the liberty bowl?
Hopefully he thinks Aresco is gonna get us some tie-ins after 2019. Music City, Independence and Liberty should all have an American team as their backup should the conferences not fulfill their requirements. I believe right now Independence and Liberty have the American deal in place.

Yes, under the current agreement at least.
good way to sell tickets... 'once in a lifetime event' (until the bowl tie ins change)

We desperately need some better bowl partners.

Independence and Music City would both be fun bowls for Memphis.

Matchup is Florida State vs. Southern Miss this year. Yikes. What a year by the Seminoles.

Wasn't the current Liberty Bowl contract signed between SEC and Big 12 BEFORE there was an AAC?

I wonder how many FSU fans will make the glorious trip to Shreveport to root on a coachless 6-6 team?
Existing contract runs out in 2019.
so its kind of like Duke or UNC playing every year in the NCAA tourney. they never leave the state!!!
they can make all the bowls relevant by following the process that the other divisions use

a local kid is playing for the division ii national championship

that division uses a 28 team playoff, with the top 4 teams getting a bye in round 1

after each round, the remaining teams are re-ranked

Oh, I don't like that part of it. Especially for D-1a. That sounds like the perfect tool to ensure [insert Alabama-esque team here] never faces a "bad match-up".

probably a lot...plus Shreveport/Bossier city is full of casinos (adults) and museums like Water Works and Discovery Center (for the kids). I'd love to see Memphis play in the Independence Bowl.

of course, that doesn't fit 'the miserables' narrative.
