UAB was 23-26 in free throws at Auburn this afternoon.

I had just noticed how well we shot and was thinking we had to be rated high.
Look at these numbers for our top 7 players:

Perry 24-27 .889
Cokley 43-49 .878 (remember how bad he used to be)
Bryant 39-46 .848
Darling 20-24 .833
Norton 10-12 .833
Sullivan 21-26 .808
Lee 11-18 .611 (and he was much better last year)

If Ehsan can't have the team shooting 100% from the line, he shouldn't be coaching d1 basketball.

This tells me our focus on offense needs to be getting the ball in the paint. Cokely's post play + guards driving and getting fouled is the recipe for success on offense.

The fact that Lee has only shot 18 free throws this season is telling. He spends too much time on the perimeter.

I thought it was funny at one point yesterday right after Lee attempted a three, the announcer said something about him attempting a rare three.

That's his game though. It hasn't changed in 3+ years at uab.

Yep! You hit the nail on the head. I have clearly noticed this, too. Lee has only 15 offensive rebounds for the season. Not only is he not proficient, at all, at boxing out in the paint, he is not even in the paint most of the time. This could be a much, much better team if he would make a significant improvement in both areas(putting himself in the paint, and boxing out.

I just don't think he is physical enough. Tends to play soft. I don't have as much an issue with playing the perimeter some as I do with a lack of aggressiveness. It's not his nature. Someone needs to piss him off before every game.
being aggressive will lead to more trips to the FT line IMHO.

Sometimes games are a street fight and if you don't bring it you will end up getting your ass whipped.

He doesn't have the body RO play down low no lmatter how aggressive he is. If he plays at the next level, it will be based on his perimeter play. But college is maybe two games a week and he doesn't show up every game. NBA is going to be 3-4 nights a week. He's got to start showing up every game.

Think about this ...

How many times have you seen Lee "poster" a guy? I'm not talking about via an alley-oop or put-back. He's never been one to attack the rim off the dribble. If he had Zack Bryant's killer instinct he could be incredible given his length.

With that being said I agree with others that his post college success will come from the perimeter and his defense. He's content with being who he is college. He isn't going to flip a switch for more than a game or two.

I think much of Lee's perimeter play is dictated by Cokley's post offense. That is, keeping an extra defender away from the post so Cokley can operate easier. Lee seems play closer to the basket when Cokley is not in the game.

I think the same could be said for Gueye, and Pearson too.


Lee is a stretch four, and was being groomed to be a point forward.

Also Cokley is smallish too the reason you probably see more of a face up post game out of him.
