Hopefully I can put all this bickering to rest. When CUSA had the most "prestigious" teams in CUSA 1.0.... Southern Miss was clearly the king of the Mountain. In CUSA 2.0 Southern Miss simply was not as dominant for some reason but was still probably considered the top of the Mountain. CUSA 3.0 We were at our absolute lowest point in history for 3 years. The other 3 years we have been okay, but not good. I get that all the new teams do not see what we see because we have done nothing since they have been here to earn their respect. Having said that, I think we can all agree that the AAC is seen as a slightly better conference. We are not mad at you guys because you have outplayed us since the inception of CUSA 3.0. We are angry because the perception of the league we play in has diminished and it has a direct impact on our recruiting ability. Frankly, I dont see a huge difference in the top teams from year to year but the bottom teams are generally really really bad.... whereas the previous versions weren't as bad on the bottom. We see teams in the AAC reaching new heights that they could not when they were playing Southern Miss. Are we jeolous? Well hell yes. It's like being in the minor leagues and you have a gold glove and you are the batting champ every other year, but teammates who they "think" has a higher ceiling despite no proof keep getting called up to the big leagues. (I am talking about Tulane, UCF, USF, ECU, and Memphis who we on the field dominated) It just hurts to see your friends/rivals "appear" to pass you by.

At the end of the day, we have been our own worst enemy since 3.0. We are railing on teams that have outperformed us. They deserve our respect because we are all riding in the same crust bucket of a boat that doesnt obtain any TV money. We are all trying to prove that we belong. FAU this year is probably better than any UCF (while in CUSA) team that I remember. It is all about perspective.

Well, the look at me thread didn’t belong on a USM vs FSU thread. Hell, i am not disparaging any of the 3.0 teams because we may have a winning record against maybe 3 of you guys. I’m just admitting that we are jealous of our old mates. I’m sure LaLafayette or Troy feels the same way we do. They probably beat the hell out of Fau and fiu in the Sunbelt. Both teams get in CUSA and are immediately better. It is what it is.

Could a S. Miss fan make a list of CUSA championships over the last 5 and then 10 years...all sports. Probably too many to list but I will start and you can add to it

Also, I think you have a different concept of immediately than the rest of us. It'd be a tough row to hoe to make the argument that FIU & FAU's current year success is due to conference affiliation rather than coaching changes methinks.

And if you believe them, nobody in the Sun Belt except Texas St is really clamoring to be in this conference.

One more thing, I'll let you in on a little secret. We want to be in the AAC with all your former conference mates too. The gall of us wanting such a thing having not "paid our dues" I know but there it is.

In the meantime, we've got a record number of bowls coming up to which I wish everyone in CUSA well, conference play in basketball is nearly upon us and for you USM and Rice fans baseball is just a few short months away. So let's enjoy where we are for now.

You are right about everything except the part about putting all the bickering to rest. It's not easy being the flagship. Everyone else should just admit that USM is the flagship but instead they bicker.

Whoa, dude! I think the answer is for Southern Mississippi to go Independent for a few years. It's possible that some other conference will offer you a membership.

I just realized that USM is as successful at beating MT in football and basketball as Old Dominion.
