Congrats to the Aggies ending a 57 year drought. Beat S. Alabama to get their 6 win.

Although, they were bowl eligible in the early 2000's, there wasn't enough bowls at that time.

Congrats!
They had a great crowd at this game. Mob scene with everyone rushing the field. AD & Coach interviewed in tears.

Love the end zone backdrop.
I wouldn't count my chickens just yet. They are eligible, yes. But so are 80 other teams. Three will be left out. Will the Sun Belt Conference go to bat for them? The conference has five teams eligible and only four tie-ins. Will they insist that those spots go to teams that will be part of the league going forward?
Congrats to NMSU. I don't think their are any more eligible Sun Belt teams to replace them. I believe they now have 5 teams for 5 bowls. And the Sun Belt certainly isn't going to hand over the slot to C-USA if they can help it. I would be pretty surprised if the announcement of NMSU to the Arizona Bowl is not forthcoming shortly.

Sun Belt has 5 tie-ins. New Orleans, Mobile, Montgomery, Orlando, and Tucson.
With both NMSU and UAB going Bowling this year (NMSU WILL go, the Sun Belt has 5 slots and 5 bowl eligible teams), Kansas has the longest Bowl drought among all FBS teams.

Kansas' last Bowl game was in 2008.

Massachusetts, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina and Texas State have never gone Bowling - but all joined FBS in 2009 or later.

That's right. NMSU will get one of the Sun Belt bowl places.

Great timing for them, because if they were a football indy this year, as they will be next year, they would be sitting home at 6-6.

That's what I get for trusting the internet. Apparently the site I got my info from was wrong, and NMSU is guaranteed a seat at the table. Good for them.
Awesome!
Sun Belt has five tie ins:

Arizona (Mountain West)
Dollar General (MAC)
Cure (American)
Camellia (MAC)
New Orleans (C-USA)

This should mean the following:

NMSU - Arizona
App State/Ark State/Troy - Dollar General/Cure/New Orleans
Georgia State - Camellia

Arkansas State and Troy (both 6-1 SBC) are playing each other right now, and the winner will be 7-1 alongside Appalachian State.

The Sun Belt was apparently considered for a tie-in with the Frisco (née Miami Beach) Bowl, but that will be American vs. an at-large selection, likely C-USA given their situation.
Congratulations New Mexico State!
I'm happy for them. I'm sure they'll travel in huge numbers to whatever bowl they go to.

There could be a swap with the New Mexico bowl with either CUSA or the MW.

Kansas’s last win was in the Orange Bowl too 03-lmfao
Great story! I’ll be pulling for our old WAC mates.

I was at the Rice game with some friends who were Rice grads when they beat SMU in 2006 to qualify for the first time in almost 50 years. Everyone was on the field. My daughter was on my shoulders high fiving the football players.

The Arizona Bowl issued a statement last night saying they would be thrilled to host New Mexico State in their bowl. That's a done deal.
