Our defense played very well against Western. I would tend to say that Akron and Western are about equal and somewhat proven by the 14-13 game at Kalamazoo earlier this year. Their running quarterbacks are a bit of a concern, but we are playing indoors and our passing game should be unstoppable if we play to just our normal capability. Combine that with what should be a fast track for the running game, I would expect to see all three of our top backs getting carries. Bringing Art Thompkins in after Swanson and Seymour will give their defense fits with his speed. The Western linebackers were rated the best in the MAC, and they had an NFL caliber cornerback that we picked on fairly regularly.
I know we have talked about which bowl game we should go to - all based on winning this game. we can do that as fans. The players are unquestionably focused on the game and I would suspect will come out very hungry for this title and championship rings. I guess after seeing how we played as a defense against Western, as a fan I feel pretty confident heading into this game. But, the fall down against Ohio and Akron beating Ohio the following week is something we cannot rule out as a fluke followed by another fluke.
