Much talk below about Group of 5 programs keeping winning atmosphere alive year to year. Last year at this time we were watching some of these teams have great seasons and the selection committee was playing head games with us claiming WMU was not worthly of a Cotton Bowl selection. Well look below how these teams stand a year later.

Houston 6-3 (returned a lot of P5 talent, new coaching staff as WMU)
Wyoming 7-3
Only Boise and San Diego St have two loses among 2016 favorites. Isn't it funny Boise has again slipped into the top 25 all of a sudden. This year Central Florida sweats bullets. If Boise wins out finishing 11-2 and UCF loses their conference championship at 12-1, Boise goes to the big dance. What a crock
UCF went from 12-1 in 2013, to 0-12 in 2015, to undefeated so far in 2017.

So how do you explain Toledo and NIU's sustained success? Not only are they within our own conference, but in the same
division.

Promoted from within. Toledo did it twice, NIU hired Kill and Doeren and then promoted from within.
Keep your system in place and keep rolling. Was never going to happen with PJ though because the program was all about him.
^That's what I've been saying since the beginning.
We've been told many times that the opportunity to promote from within was there. We just decided not to go in that direction.

Depends on definition of sustained success? WMU and NIU are the only MAC teams to play on New Years day. NIU likely is going to a bowl at the same level any 6-7 win MAC team will attend. Toledo does really well regular season but probably the same. my point was G5 changes almost every year. Only Boise has sustained national prominence the last ten years.

That's part of it but you also have to have a good QB. We went from Harnish (basically his last 2 years he was good) to Lynch (2 years). Hare was decent though not great and won against a somewhat easier MAC in 2014 - both Toledo and BG had backup QBs playing against us for example - big difference. And then 2015 I'm not sure how we won the division but we got blasted again by BG - and we had a backup QB in there by then.

I have no problem with Boise. G5 schools everywhere owe a lot to Boise. Boise is the program which had the original dream of becoming good enough that they would go out and play the best P5 schools, then beat them, and maintain a relatively consistent level of success. They have likely had opportunities to jump to a P5 conference, but chose to stay in the MW, which is arguably the best G5 conference. Without Boise the G5 conferences and schools would never have gotten any respect at all.
I am not a fan or the AAC. Great conference, but not near as great as they think. I hope Central Florida loses.
Boise has begged to get in PAC 12 but they won’t take them. Remember they were going to be football only in the Big East before it folded.
AAC is undoubtedly the best G5 conference. MWC just hasn’t mainatined success with its other programs year after year.
I used to think Peej would fail because he’d never eclipse the 9 wins of his predisessor, but now I’m convinced the crazy #skankasaurus will bring him down.

San Diego St / Boise St are top 5 G5 every year, for over a decade. Wyoming and Colorado State can compete with any MAC school year end and out. Air Force goes in cycles but is competitive most years, a bit off this season. Houston and South Florida would win games in any P5 conference. Top to bottom I would argue the AAC is pretty solid. They beat up on each other which hurts their New Years chances every year. The NCAA rule of winning your conference hurts and helps depending on the year. If UMASS was able to build a powerhouse and sit at 12-0 this season a two loss G5 could jump them for bowl invites. it is a crazy system with only 4 P5's for playoffs and one G5 to major bowl.

The MW has been excellent for a long time. The last year or two the AAC has been a great regular season conference, but is probably the worst conference during bowl season.
Boise being down for them the last several seasons has hurt the MW reputation a bit recently, but it is still a very deep and solid league, which competes very well for a G5 against P5 schools, and has good depth with it's best teams. The AAC tends to get exposed at the end of the season. Last year the AAC got a lot of mileage out of a big win or two by Houston. It is a solid league for sure, but not nearly as good as they think.

According to his documentary, during the season he’s at work at 5AM and leaves at midnight. He’s always been married to the job.
