I DVRed the game and just finished watching it. Better than last season, in that we actually came out with energy and obviously cared about the came. About the same in that there was some sloppy execution, particularly on defense. Bottom-line, we got the win, secured a winning season, and avenged last season's embarrassment. That despite a definite "trap game" setup: short turnaround and following hard-fought contests against WMU and EMU.

Offense: B+. Two turnovers, one in the red zone and the other that gave Kent a golden opportunity, which they fortunately declined. I thought we'd run a little more and better than we did, but it was still a solid performance on the ground. We put up 35 offensive points and plenty of yardage.

Defense: C+ We gave up too many yards (494) to a Kent offense that has been pathetic most of the season. However, only 23 points. That's more than we should have, but it's still less than our defensive average. Seven sacks is very good; most of them came in obvious passing situations, but it still was good to see the defense pin its ears back and be effective to close the game out. Sloppy tackling at times, which Bonamego acknowledged and promised to fix. Two more turnovers forced was good, and one was very timely, spoiling a Kent drive that looked to end in a TD. The defensive stand that set up our last TD late in the 4th quarter was fun to watch! Ostman was understandably a little rusty, but he finished strong. His play on Kent's two-point conversion attempt was outstanding and seemed to take some of their momentum away.

Special Teams: B+ The missed 30 yarder is disappointing and worrisome. Granted our kicker hasn't had to kick under pressure for awhile, but still. That can't happen next week. The KO return for a TD was a joy to watch, and Davis had at least two other long returns. KO coverage was solid; punt coverage could have been better.

4-0 on the road in MAC play. That hasn't happened in a while! Let's just hope we can finish 3-2 at home...
Games like this are concerning.

When they let a team like Kent hang around within distance in the fourth quarter, one has to question the ability to finish games. If Kent had scored after that horrendous pass by Morris that was intercepted inside the CMU 10, we could have seen a very different outcome. A good team would have made Central pay dearly for that mistake. And who knows what the momentum swing would have caused?

They have surpassed my expectations on this year already. But I still don’t think they are all that good, because they lack focus when they have an inferior opponent. The inability to stomp on them and end their hope, is concerning, IMO.
Guys, I agree with everything you said, except, Colby/SHAME Morris must go!
Defense: D-

That performance against a competent offense would have almost certainly caused us to lose. Dreadful tackling all evening.

Glad to win, but zero style points came with that victory.
That rag, the Freep, wrote an article that "SHAME Morris" lifts CMU to Victory." I don't know what game the AP was watching, but Morris, almost gave that game away! Typical Freep, if there's a scUM player involved, they must give him credit/ink! What a phucking disgrace! I hope TP plays the entire game against NIU!
