I will focus mostly on the men's gamed, although the Toledo women beat NEC pre-favorite St Francis by 10 to open the season.

Big Game Friday was Ball State at Dayton, the Flyers are rebuilding under a new coach but that's the toughest place to win in Ohio. Ball's Parsons scores with 3 seconds to go for cards lead but Dayton executes a buzzer beater play to win.

Upset wins for the MAC as 2 teams picked toward the bottom of the league-BG and Miami won road games at Colonial and A10 teams-who admittedly are picked toward the bottom of their leagues. still, good wins for BG - who shot pretty well and played a cleaner floor game than Drexel and got 33, yes 33 from RS Frosh Justin Turner. Miami true frosh jalen Adaway had a game high 15 and a game high 14 boards and hit the game winner on the road at Fordham. Big Win for the new staff at Miami.

all 3 MAC teams playing real games again lower division opponents were blow out wins, not much else to say on those.

MAC Men 5-1 Friday

Toledo Women 1-0

Toledo Women 1-0

FIRST RULE TO A SUCCESSFUL SEASON ..... beat the teams you are supposed to beat. ...

RULE NO. 2 .... win the 50/50 games ...

Well done MAC.
Miami destroyed Fordham in rebounding and defended the three pretty well, two things we never did in five years under Coop. Need to handle the ball way better, but that's something you can chalk up to freshman mistakes at least initially. I'm encouraged, first OOC road win for us since 2014.
Great day all around on the women's side...and men a 2-1 day vs the D1 teams is good as well
Buffalo wins 80-75 at home against Canisius. Perkins with 26 points 6 rebounds, looking like he may make the step from MAC 6th man to MAC POTY candidate.
Ugh Ball state... would have been a nice win.
Toledo never trails St. Joe’s, never plays defense and almost never misses from three point range in a 98-87 win. Sanford gets 30 and 8 assists.
Broncos take down Siena Heights.

We'll see how good we are vs South Carolina on Monday on SEC Network.
Toledo 11 point win over St Joes gives Mac a 1st quality win as St joes should be a top 100 team.

MAC men go 11-1 to open the year. 7-1 vs D1, half of those 8 games at home. tougher comp coming up monday and tuesday, S Carolina, Michigan, Oklahoma...

EMU is expected to beat Michigan handily today.

Edit: Michigan-Dearborn. Sorry for the oversight. Lol.

TOLEDO ... scored 98 points and had 14 3-pointers ..... Kent State (vs. a lesser opponent) had 111 points and just 2 3-pointers. Not comparing, just saying.
Saw the Toledo game and part of the Kent game. Toledo Strength is half court offense and shooting and st Joe's didn't do much to take thAt away. Kent was playing a team that was more interested in guarding the inbound pass and backcourt than their actual basket. Kent got to the rim at will.
MAC teams get a challenge on Monday: CMU @ Mich., S. Dak.@BG, and WMU at S.Carolina.
EMU took down UofM(Dearborn, not Ann Arbor) today in another high scoring game. EMU is averaging 94.5 PPG. Very talented sitout PF, Minnie, is averaging almost 25 PPG. Very smooth, talented player who can do it all. EMU fans thing he can be all-MAC.

Thursday and Saturday we play our first two games of a tourney as we host Ark. State and Howard. Then on to Indiana and So. Florida.

Indiana is down but still has talent and a big crowd behind them. S fla is in rebuild mode too and has some talent but should be beatable.

I'm not making any predictions but beating all four: Ark State, Howard, IU and S. Fl. would, I think, make EMU the MAC West favorite

Unlike the start of last year which was a debacle thanks to UofM, this should go well.

Last year in the pre-season NIT we were to visit UofM and Marquette to open it. UofM refused. So we opened at Pitt, then two days later went to Dallas to play SMU and then a few days like went to Indy to play two more games. We lost 3 of 4. The first game vs. Pitt was, I believe, a double OT game.

These four games are ideal. Two at home and then a short trip to IU. Then after Thanksgiving the trip to S.FL and stay down there to play N. Florida (we owed them a home game).

For all the complaining about ESPN deal, I love the fact that I can sit in my living room with a Roku or AppleTV box and watch every MAC basketball game on a big screen. Last night I was able to switch back-and-forth among three different games. I remember too well the days when you used to have to follow the games on Game Tracker and sometimes you would only get updates every 10 or 15 minutes, if that. Now, you can watch almost every MAC game, men or women, plus soccer, volleyball etc. For people who aren’t near their alma mater and can rarely get to campus (that’s most alums) it keeps them connected in a way that was not possible previously.

And all that said, last night was not a good one. 0-3 with none of the games close in the last few minutes.

CMU managed to stay 6+ pts behind for most of the 2nd half after leading for most of the first half and just couldn’t close the gap. BG mostly led until the 8 mi. mark and then SD made a run BG could not answer and won by nine. S. Carolina took command before halftime, and WMU struggled to get the deficit into single digits a couple of times before USC pulled away. The Gamecocks were the best team I saw tonight. Outside of Wilder, the Broncos were just outmanned.

Tonight, two interesting games: Wright St. @ Miami and Green Bay at NIU. Also, Toledo hosts a lower division team.
Ohio had the least impressive win of the weekend over Alabama A&M. Already ravaged by injury, Simmons' grad-transfer and graduations, Ohio lost its best player in Jason Carter to a "lower leg" injury that has him in a boot. It's going to be a long and ugly weekend at their tournament. Shaping up to be a rough year in Athens.

I agree with you.

Almost 25 years ago I used to pay to a 800 service which picked up MAC school broadcasts. This was when EMU hoops was really good and I wanted to follow them live before the advent of the Internet, as we know it.

Now, I can watch say EMU games on a ESPN channel or CBSSN and listen to the EMU broadcast from WEMU (EMU's FB broadcast crew is as good as any team's in college)
