60 million project. It looks like no tear down of existing stands in Phase 1, just adding chairbacks, so it might hold less than the 22k it does now.
"Phase 1 will focus on the west side of the stadium and will include:
Chair backs added to the three middle sections
New Stadium Club space with bar, food and access to exclusive Club seating
Enhanced press box, including a game day production studio and coaches' booths
Upgraded restrooms and concessions to improve the fan experience"

Future phases, which will begin after fundraising and construction are complete on Phase 1, focus on the east side, end zones and video board.

Yes! Maybe this is the spark!

Jesus that is a lot of money for what doesn't look like a significant improvement (at least visually).
Upgraded restrooms? No more piss wall?

Bigger piss wall can handle 100 standing.

My first impression is they are getting a partial, scaled down version of what we have on one side. If so, what we got was a bargain. They aren’t even doing a tear down.

Still, glad they are investing and making improvements, rather than becoming URI. Many UD fans would like to be FBS, and maybe we can still be a package deal for CUSA or MAC.
Gotta understand that we stole what we got for $62 mil or whatever the final price tag was. Gotta give the admin credit for that. Glad to see UD doing something to enhance a stadium I actually like but does need some upgrades. They def need the chairbacks for the demographic of their fan base.
From the second link above, it seems part of the reason the stadium renovation is less impressive is they are also putting some of these funds towards an APC facility.

Don’t think the end result will be as impressive as BFS and our APC, but it would likely make their facilities a solid #2 in the CAA. May compare favorably to CUSA facilities.
Took a peek at their board to see what they are saying. The anti JMU really starts to come out about the 65th post, starting with
Quote:JMU can have their tin piece of ****.

Delaware Stadium is a treasure with history and character, great site lines and a great atmosphere. Any group of rednecks can buy an erector set and throw together what JMU did, but we've got something special. I see these improvements as a well executed plan to enhance and preserve our awesome stadium... which IMHO was an awesome stadium yesterday, before these plans were made public.

If you don't get that some things are worth preserving, then that's too bad.

We can't have nice things, but it's okay because we DON'T WANT nice things!!!!!

- UD fan, probably
Its just envy ... if you read prior posts there about CGD, etc, UD fans know we’ve passed them in most every way and it eats them up to admit it. They were top dog in the conference before we came along.
If I hear about sight lines one more time, I might have to go kill a chicken with my bare hands.

How sad though. So many years their fans beg and deserve upgrades, and 25 years later, this? Wow.
I honesty do not like UD more than I do not like UR. I enjoy beating them in every sport we play. With that being said, I really enjoy beating the Spiders and hope tomorrow will be a beat down of epic proportions.

He should be a politician with that epic level of spin. He’s pissed that their “improvements” are so underwhelming and is trying to convince himself otherwise.

I'm feeling violent. Think I'll kill two chickens.

Yes - anyone thinking that that stadium has historic meaning is only fooling themselves. They are just bleachers - there must have been thousands of stadiums constructed with those same blueprints.

I do enjoy beating them though.

A Delaware fan told me the bleachers were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright during his brief outdoor sports venue phase.

Can we call it "Falling Standards"?
Always felt that exposed lower deck bleachers look high-schoolish. By exposed, I mean being able to see all the beams, girders and support posts from outside the stadium. That's how Delaware Stadium looks. (and our endzone bleachers too) Florida State used to look that way before puting a cladding/ facade around it. Penn State still looks that way.
When I think of "treasures" when it comes to sports, who on earth aside from Delaware fans would include that place? I've been there many times and while it isn't a dump, it definitely isn't a treasure either.
I'll take our erector set stadium any day over what they have. It's like the kid with the 20 year old hand me down toys trying to convince himself that the rusty old toy is so much better than the new stuff.
