Were we not bowl eligible in 2013? We had seven wins, six against D1 or whatever teams.

Was that the season we lost at Akron in the final game? If so, as I recall we were really limping down the stretch that year and perhaps we just didn't look interesting to one of the bowls or UT made a decision not to participate in a bowl?

Yes, that year but the OU article says we weren’t bowl ELEGIBLE and I, like you, thought we were but either elected to not go or got passed over.

Ohio(7-6) played a much weaker OOC schedule@Louisville,Marshall, North Texas,Austin Peay. Lost their last 3 of 4. Toledo(7-5) played @Florida, @Mizzou, Eastern Washington, Navy. EWU was #3 in FCS, losing in the semi-final of the national championship. Rockets lost their two last games to #20 NIU and Akron. Comparing schedules, Toledo had a better season. There must of been some funny backroom stuff that put OU in a Bowl over UT. Rockets had defeated MAC Champ BGSUX in the Doyt 28-25. The Bobkitties were beaten by the Falcons 49-0.
Rockets did not elect not to go to a Bowl.

But my point is we WERE bowl eligible, right?

Yes, CMU was eligible at 6-6.

Yep. You are certainly correct. In fact, as I recall the discussion on this Board was whether or not we should accept a Bowl bid when it came. I was one who didn't think we should...team seemed flat & disinterested down the stretch & we had a number of key injuries...I think Dave Pasquale, who came here as a QB but actually played mostly as a back-up FB, was even the main RB in our game at Akron.

We were bowl eligible. It has been said that there was an OU alumnus involved in the decision made by the MAC offices to support Ohio in a bowl appearance over Toledo. We had a very disappointing end to that season and played very poorly against Akron after losing to NIU. That may have contributed to the leagues decision.

I was told by a UT AD person that the decision was made by the MAC. In any case, after the loss to Akron, IMO we didn't deserve a bowl game that year. Let's win out this year and see what good things will happen!

Another story on the OU game from the Athens paper:

https://www.athensnews.com/news/campus/o...1652f.html

Quote:Some of the biggest weapons in the MAC play for Toledo, and the best is quarterback Logan Woodside.

“Well, there hasn’t been much slowing him down up to this point,” Ohio coach Frank Solich said of Woodside during his press conference last week… We know from just his career in the MAC that he’s a great quarterback, very poised in the pocket, can hurt you running the ball, has got the kind of arm that can make every throw that you need to make in the game of football. He’s a legitimate big-time threat; he has excellent receivers. "

I'm seriously starting to wonder if some of these coaches known anything about the teams they are playing. Woodside's career average is 3 yards rushing ... per game. This year he is doing better ... it's up to 9.
That 2013 season was pretty frustrating.
During the game last week on TV - I thought they said that we beat OU in a head-to-head game, but Ohio got to go to the bowl game and we did not even though we were bowl eligible. They had a graphic showing Toledo has been bowl eligible for the past 8 seasons, but did not go to a bowl game in 2013 because of a decision by the conference.

So I looked it up - and we did not play OU that year. Maybe they meant CMU whom we beat easily and we stayed home while they went. Or maybe they said CMU and I didn't hear it right.

Will be interesting to see if Cody Thompson and Atariwa will be ready for a MACC game. It will be week 10 for Atariwa and week 8 for Thompson. Atariwa could very well be ready to come back, but may depend on other factors. Thompson is much less likely, but I would not count him out. Would be very tough to do, but not possible. Maybe 5% chance?

Rockets had a 5-3 Conference record. OU was 4-4. It would be nice to have them at least for the Bowl game.
I went out to look at Ohio's stats and who've they've played etc. We could lose this game if we don't get the penalties controlled and don't do a better job in the red zone of getting TD's. The first point is usually the cause of the second point. We also have to be able to rush the ball effectively. Passing should not be a problem, although they do have more interceptions that we do and also more sacks. Again, they have not played anyone of note, so running up stats is a bit easier.

Consider:

BG beat Kent State easily; Kent State beat Miami, Miami beat Central Michigan, Central Michigan beat OU. But OU beat BG and Kent Sate and Miami. We beat Central Michigan rather easily in the rain at their place. Means nothing overall - other than on any given Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Saturday in the MAC, anything can happen

The only quality win I see OU having is against Eastern Michigan. We did not play well against Eastern and squeaked out a 20-15 win, although I never felt like we were in danger of losing the game (strange since one play could have turned that into a loss)

Basically played without the MAC's leading Rusher and Receiver. Really didn't have time to adjust for the loss of Cody.

Yep.. exactly.

Anybody know if Heidecker is going to be able to play tomorrow? It was when he got hurt that Jeppeson entered the game at center and Harris moved back to guard (or tackle, not sure) and we scored on 2 straight possessions.

I don't think we can underestimate the impact bad snaps have on the timing of a play - especially a running play. We played much more crisply with the snaps getting to Woodsides chest instead of his knees or ankles. Tough for Harris to move over to center. I think we are a much better team with him at guard and Jeppeson at center.
