It's official. UTA are the favorites for both the men's and women's Sun Belt Conference titles.

Is this the first time a Sun Belt school was the favorite to win both the men's and women's regular season title?
Thinking Western might have.

I think you're right. WKU has had a great athletic program for a long time.
We were the first program outside of WKU to actually win the conference tourney last year for both men's and women's in the same year

(Women have won it last 2 years)
I'm not knowledgeable enough with the women's side to know, but I agree with UTA being the preseason fav on the men's side.

Returning Hervey and Neal is enough for me to put them #1.

I actually think I'd put Georgia Southern at #2. Brown, Smith, Hughes is such a nasty combo in the backcourt and those guys are finally upperclassmen. Troy is probably top 3 for me with Varnado and Person both returning. Georgia State/Louisiana in the mix also.
Georgia State will be pretty good I think. UTA will probably win the regular season and then lose in like the second round of the tournament as usual. Were even good at this in the SLC

I’m with you on GS. Their guards are great, and it was kind of funny seeing how all the GS picks on the preseason all-SBC team didn’t translate into their being slotted in at #2. (I realize there was a razor thin margin for several picks after the Mavs though...)

Wrong. Little Rock did it in 2011.
Are the lady Mavs really the favs for the girls? What happened to LR/ A-State/ Troy? Usually are all very solid at girls hoops.
UTA has a very good program, seen them a couple times, they are good.

Our women's basketball program had the best player in school history for 3 years and failed to make the tournament once. We haven't recovered since. It's a very sore point with a lot of our fans. I'm expecting 10th or 11th place this year.

If you're talking about any other player than Sonja Tate, you don't know what you're talking about.

well I will of course be rooting for both the mavs teams, but dont put the cart before the horse. the guys lost a really good outside shooter and a scrappy enforcer in the post and the two 7 footers draw fouls at warp speed. the girls added another center but I dont see much other new firepower but maybe better depth of all-around skilled players. I see both teams as pretty solid but they will have to work hard to get it done.

and by the way, exhibition or not, when ou got down by 20 I bet they got serious in a hurry.

Since y'all can't play in a bowl most of us don't care....
Don't hold the opinion of one guy against the rest. Every other Maverick poster is a quality contributor to this forum.
With every team having four SBC opponents they play only once instead of home and away it is important to look at who plays the projected top teams only once and where and who plays the projected bottom teams only once. Playing the bottom teams only once forfeits the chance for 2-0 sweeps which boost the SBC regular season record. Playing the top teams only once protects against 0-2 sweeps. As tight as the top half of SBC is projected to be these one game opponents may shape the final standings aka tournament seeds.

I know that. Just messing with the guy. Can't hold a man's opinion against him even though it's wrong.....

04-cheers ... I really do think the Mavs have a great chance to get the nation's attention and become the next cinderfella story. I think at least a Sweet 16 is very attainable.
