Already ruled out this week.
So does the coaching staff feel that he would recurve a medical redshirt? I hate to see a player out half the season and not get a redshirt. Trust me, Marshall knows with our own Devan Johnson.
If I was Big Stock, I think I'd sit my son for the rest of the year, let him get healthy, and try to get him another year with the medical redshirt. I doubt he'll ever be close to 100% with this much of the season already in the books.

....I think the kid is already in his 5th year of college football, with one more year to go? That's 6 years already. I believe he was a Class of 2013 recruit.I don't think I've ever heard of a kid getting 7 years to play 4......except WKU's famed Brandon Doughty of course, who played QB for the Toppers for 10 years. 03-wink
The kid deserves a year back. Jmo

I already laid this out in the "Update on Brent" thread.

He did not enroll in '13. He sat out that fall. His first year was '14. He ostensibly redshirted but played five snaps in the first game of the year before leaving with a lower extremity injury. So, by virtue of that we know he received a medical redshirt that season otherwise he would be a senior in '17.

He meets all the requirements but would have to apply to the NCAA (and hope) to receive a sixth year. Considering this season is lost I would rather risk that have him come back for three meaningless games.

Plus, the injury he suffered scares me. I say officially shut him down, potential sixth season or not.
your coach has been 'gaming' this injury for weeks; now that it's become clear around here that they're going for a medical red-shirt, there's no point in messing around anymore. clearly the decision was made early on; kinda of bush if you ask me.
Will we score against Marshall?

I'm starting to here that Brent doesn't want to play two more years.

And that he will return for UTEP and would probably already be playing if our OL wasn't so bad.

And if that is his mindset...if he is mentally done then you can bet your ass that next year will got to **** faster than the turds we lay at out home with big crowds.

This f'n university is just full of rainbows and puppies.

And by the way he hasn't been gaming it. The standard recovery time for his injury is 3 to 4 months. They sent him to B'ham to get stem cell treatments to (hopefully) help him recover faster, but now that the season is lost I personally see no reason to play him. If it were me running it I would put him on the shelf and apply for the sixth year at this point.

But if Brent doesn't have the desire to play (and let's face it he's had a ton of injuries) then it's not going to matter. It's going to be a shitshow either way.

Published reports prior to our game was he was practicing and was questionable for the game; in other words 'better prepare for both QB's'. It's now clear they are shelving him but I'm sure that decision was made some time ago. Either way, it was a solid win for MTSU.

He did try to practice that week but didn't respond well to being out there.
I thought he signed with Cincinnati out of HS and then transferred to Middle. Am I misremembering that? If that's correct, then the 2013 season he "sat out" was actually a transfer year and goes against his clock.
Sucks to see Mtsu in this position. Feel like they can't catch a break. Would be right up there with Marshall if not for this injury. At least got that w against cuse.

He signed with Tommy Tuberville at Cincinnati out of high school but never enrolled in school as TT left before the season started. Cincy granted his release. Not sure what that does to one's eligibility.
