Not too early to start playing the end of season chess game.

Right now our season hinges on three games. Beat Akron and we have a tie breaker over WMU. NIU needs to beat WMU. We need to beat NIU. In this scenario WMU would have one west loss and the east loss to Akron. We could lose to wmu and ohio and still represent the west because WMU lost to Akron, and we beat Akron. Beating NIU would give us the west, right?

If WMU beats NIU, we need to beat WMU and NIU. We can't look to anyone else in the west to beat NIU if we can't do it or western, maybe EMU? This is the tougher route. Plus we play the top two teams in the east. Still need to beat Akron to help with the breaker. I also don't want to lose to any east team, but not sure if Ohio has common opponents, and what tie breakers come into play. If we sweep the west, but lose to Akron or Ohio, it shouldn't affect us representing the west, right?

The X factor is if Eastern can put it together and knock off their sister directional schools, and NIU and help us out. I am a big EMU fan the rest of the season

No problem. Which two games do you plan to lose in return? Although I hate to see "The Streak" against NIU end.

Whomever scores more than about 14 points will probably beat us, with our current QB. He'll complete 67% of his (short) passes for us and have 1-2 TDs and no picks. And we'll score 14 points.

Of course winning out is another option, but if you have been a UT fan the past few years, we tend to have an issue with finishing out a season without one or two loses. I'd rather not squeak into the west title, but can't help but schedule watch.

A loss to OU would be the least damaging. And I agree with your initial post that hoping for EMU to pull off a win against a division rival after so many close losses would work wonders for the Rockets.

EMU will be dangerous. Good defense, solid qb, just find ways to lose. I'd expect their luck to change a little down the stretch. That Army loss was literally by an inch. Down 1 in final minutes and went for the 2 pt conversion. EMU back had the end zone but the Army defender made a great tackle and flipped the EMU guy his entire body landed in the end zone but the ball was at the 1 inch line-no good.
