There's lots of hand wringing about the QB and understandably so, but if you told us before the season that at the halfway point we would have beaten Nebraska and be 4-2, 2-0 I think most of us would have been ecstatic. Our team has its flaws but so does everyone else. We have as good a chance to win the MAC as anyone and that's all you can ask for.

Great job so far. It's been a lot of fun and I am looking forward to the second half. Go Huskies!

Great perspective.

Realistically could be 6-0. However, if we don't compete for a championship for here on out this season will be a disappointment. We have some tough games ahead and we can't settle for just ok.
If our young QB grows up quickly, we will have a very successful year. I also think our OL needs to step up. We aren't breaking any long runs and that's on the OL. That will take a lot of pressure off our QB and allow him to gain poise and confidence.

The biggest problem with this team, coaching, is not going to improv e

There's good and bad with the staff but it has worked out so far. Hopefully they'll allow Childers to grow and thrive. People are jumping on the kid for missing open receivers in his first start, saying he's Graham. Ridiculous! The kid is only going to get better as he gets more feel for the game and experience with his receivers. They need to get off his back and appreciate the pressure he was under as a freshman QB. He performed admirably with in his first start and his running will never go in a slump.

I don't get how you or Badmoon can still be complaining about the coaching; they given the QB position to the guy you have been crying for since last spring. Then you say the play calling was terrible and didn't allow Childers to succeed. What would you have done different yesterday to help Childers?

More realistically we could be 2-4. Nebraska doesn't drop two TD passes, we lose. Buffalo doesn't lose Anderson to injury, we get smoked. We are very fortunate, but we had some lousy breaks last year. Now, let's improve offensively and shore up our secondary and win the MAC!!!!

You have reading comprehension problems, don't you?
Solid post 81. Many including me feel we should be 6-0, but were not expecting 4-2. Going in we knew we had QB issues and that has proven true. Did not realize our D and OLine would play so we'll.

Defense dropped 2 interceptions right in their hands against Nebraska. The D dominated them and they got a lucky td when we fumbled at the 2. No way did they give us that game.

They'd say we got lucky as well with two pick 6s and they were moving the ball at will until the drops. The game could have gone either way but we won. I feel fortunate to be 4-2. But we should have more bounces coming our way after the year we had last season.
Anyways, those criticizing Childers after his first start as a freshman obviously have no idea what they're talking about. He did as well as expected. Fortunately, we won thanks in large part to their QB getting hurt. But if you thought his 21-of-31 passes for 224 yards was not good enough you need a reality check. He will get better with each and every start. And those of you that criticized him should not get to enjoy the later successes he will bring. Will there be ups and downs? Of course. But the kid is obviously a gamer and like I said before, his running will never go in a slump.

Both Childers and Graham are gamers but Carey is playing Childers because he is risk averse and playing not to lose. NIU will not win a MAC Championship by playing not to lose.

Santa give us our best chance, be aggressive, play Santa and coach him up to make fewer mistakes.

Childers has not looked good at all in the passing game.

I read it several times and I respectfully disagree with you.

Seriously? Because fans are not sold yet means we can't enjoy if he turns it around? Or we don't know football? That's ridiculous. He had a good overall percentage but missed multiple open touchdowns. I hope he does turn it around but to call him a gamer after 1 1/2 games is surprising. So what is Santa after he won every start until SDSU? Childers was highly thought of coming into summer camp so I am cautiously optimistic. However if Buffalo makes that chip shot field goal, we also lose that game. This game was too close to finalize my opinion.

At least Childers has looked efficient. Had Santa Stayed in that Kent game niu doesn't even come away with 200 yards. These QBS have been so trained to not throw picks that it's limiting their ability. I agree with you that Childers allows Carey to become risk averse but where I disagree is that it has nothing to do with Childers throwing ability. Carey just found a more fundamentally sound QB that allows him to go into conservative shell. I do agree with you though huskies aren't winning jack crap that way. At some point you have to let players make plays. Huskies are playing for a 5-3 or 6-2 MAC season but not a championship season. So disappointed in coach Carey

You were Santa's biggest advocate for his first 91 passes; then you do a complete a 180 given his last 5 passes. Now you are on the Childers train; for now anyway.

The coaching staff has played their freshman QB in an ideal situation; between KSU, BU and our next opponent BGU; thier combined wins have come against Colegate, Howard, Miami Oh, Flaorida Atlantic, and well, KSU. Childers is getting an opportunity against soft opponents. Clearly, Childers is the type of QB Carey prefers. Like you, Careywas very happy with the way Childers played against BU; that's our new O, thrown short passes and hope for YAC; and have your QB be your leading rusher.
When you think about it, Santa actually did himself a disservice by bringing us back against SDSU in the 2nd half. If we continue to get blown out in that game the spotlight on the deadly sin; the pick on the potential game winning drive, never happens, and he would be the QB today.
It's all in the past now; Childers is your QB, and, barring injury, the only other QB you will see will be Graham.
Our offense needs to stop turning the ball over and learn how to score in the red zone. Coach Carey needs to go for it on 4th down when we are in the 30 yard line and closer range because Hagan is downright awful.

If it weren't for this defense, we would be looking at a very different record right now. But our offense needs to get it together these next 6 games.
