Figure may start this now...

Just saw that Boston has indicated that John Farrell won't be back as manager next year. Can't really say that i'm surprised.

4th manager change already- joining Mets, Phillies, and Tigers. Same number as last season.
How many managers get fired after winning their division?
J.D. Martinez is going to be one of the hottest names on the FA Market.

I really hope the Dbacks can re-sign him, but not sure they have the cash to do so.

Another 30+ year old OFer who isn't good on defense and will add a ton of money to a payroll that already leads the league in future commitments? We need to be shedding salary and rebuilding, not doubling down on a guy who played 120 and 119 games in 2016 and 2017, respectively. If the Giants truly want to avoid a rebuild and are willing to spend oodles of money, their plan should be: trade for Stanton, sign Otani and then sign Machado. It'll make for a very top heavy roster, with way too many salary commitments for decline years, but it would make them a WC contender. That roster would absolutely not contend for the division, but they'd probably win a WC

I am a Dbacks fan :)

But the points about Martinez are well taken, and something we debate on the Dbacks Board.

i know. When I said "we," I was referring to the Giants and me as a fan of them.

yep- was just getting set to post this....

It's funny, saw in the game 5 vs Cubs he had this strange look on his face with Scherzer struggling. Like I really don't think he wanted to do it but was forced to.
1 thing that's interesting with the Baker move is Mike Maddux pitching coach- becomes a real hot commodity.

Good call:

Eddie Matz Wrote:Houston Astros bench coach Alex Cora and former Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus could be among the possible contenders for the Nationals' opening. The Athletic reported that Nationals pitching coach Mike Maddux would be considered.
Saw Cubs have gotten rid of Chris Bosio..... pitching coach.

Also- Giants have moved Dave Righetti upstairs to the front office.

Giants are getting rid of most of the coaching staff around Bochy. I do agree that there needs to be some coaching changes, but management needs to point the finger at itself as well. Since Belt and Crawford debuted way back in 2011 the best position player we've developed is Joe Panik. And it isn't even all that close. Since Bumgarner debuted in 2010 the best pitchers we've developed are Ty Blach, Hunter Strickland and Chris Stratton. In other words, no one. In that time, we traded Luis Castillo (now starting for the Reds and throwing some serious heat) for Casey McGehee (when we had Duffy ready to start at 3B) and Adam Duvall/Keury Mella for Mike Leake. The latter trade was at least semi-defensible, but: A) I was never a Mike Leake fan, and B) LF has been a black hole since Bonds left and all Duvall has done with 2 seasons with the Reds is hit 44 HR with 5 WAR. Far from a great player, but an improvement over what we've had.

In other words, this a team that desperately needed the #2 pick in the draft

remember the day that Leake deal happened.... Of course, you were more talking about Mella from memory. Also hate to say it but Duvall has hit 69 homers with Cincy not 44.

And they needed the #1 pick, but Panda happened :)

Typo, meant 64 (in two seasons), not 44.

And yeah I was talking about Mella and definitely not Duvall. But the team is supposed to be better at evaluating its players than I am. If they aren't...

And I was always against the McGehee trade. It had nothing with what we gave up. I didn't even know who Luis Castillo was, but I did believe Duffy was ready to be a solid starter and I was right. McGehee was a disaster and the fact that we had to give up more than a buffalo nickel for him is quite sad
And yes, the f*cking Panda decided he hadn't already caused me enough pain, so why not add a bit more? If we miss out on drafting Nander De Sedas because of the Panda...

A side effect of having success and then trying to stay in contention every year is frequently making those "mortgaging the future" trades.
Just saw that Girardi is gone from the Yankees. I kind of got that feeling when watching the game 7 stuff afterwords. Not that big of a surprise....

i love it when the reds fleece the marlins. maybe fleecing is the wrong word. they just seem to not care who they send to us. they gave us a quality starting pitcher for mat latos. man i hope castillo turns out like king felix. no idea if they're comparable
