This dude was a 3 Star 6ft 197 pound Safety and Running Back when he got to NIU. Now he’s a 6 ft 225 freak Defensive End. 10 Tackles, 4 for loss, and 3 Sacks yesterday.Has 7 sacks already this season .04-bow Only a Sophmore..... If he’s getting better every year he will be our next First Round Draft Pick.
Still hard to believe he's only a sophomore. Harold Landry? Pfft. Nobody can block Sutton Smith.
MAC defensive player of the year!!

All-American at his current rate
These guys are fun to cheer for. It is always nice to get those stud recruits, but I really enjoy the ones with a chip on their shoulder with something to prove.
Hopefully, it'll be the year of Number 15!!!!!

I hope you are right, the last two years it was the number 19.

He is a great athlete. I think his size will hurt his NFL potential unless he can fit into a linebacker roll. The scheme is great for him. His speed is too much for opposing tackles. Do coaches get any credit for finding a great fit for him at this position?

Oh no doubt he's be a LB in the NFL, but yeah, he'll need to gain another 20 pounds before that's even a discussion, but he's a sophomore, that discuss is way off.

Talk about out of nowhere....
Great speed and instincts, OT's can hit what they can't catch
I just wish they'd keep him off of ST. Don't need more opportunities for injuries.

Will eventually have to see how he does in coverage for NFL talk but I just enjoy watching him play. He's a dynamic player.

He played safety in High School( guessing he has some coverage skills) and he’s got 2 and a half seasons left to build his resume, lol

I agree; he is to valuable to see on kickoff coverage. Every time we kick off and I see Sutton Smith, Jordan Huff and D.J. Brown on the kickoff coverage I hold me breath they don't get hurt.
There are plenty of coaches who have starters on special teams. One Urban Meyer specifically and I know it's OSU but he's been doing that since he was at BG.

Saban at Bama plays his starters on special teams as well. Believes in having your best in all 3 phases...that being said they have depth to fill in if a starter is hurt...

Good point.
Sutton with the mid season All American second team.

If he keeps up what hes doing, I think he will be on the first team. Crazy how much that kid is in the backfield.
Surprised that teams have not provided much extra protection on his side of the ball yet.

They move him around. He’s not always lined up on one side. I honestly don’t know if college offenses are sophisticated enough to be able to chip when they don’t know where he will line up.
