Yes I am sooo sure he was paid to leave an average school to go to team that almost is automatically in the NCAA tourney every year and a good chance of being drafted.. Dumb question go to the library.

i think it's a fair question. pitino's staff has been busted twice for some big time violations. anything is on the table when you're a repeat offender like that. we'll never know the truth.

if we're dismissing that debate then i think a different discussion is what this could all mean for college basketball. i would like to see a day where the really good players who are clear one and done types just go straight to the nba. they don't add anything to college basketball other than propping up over-rated coaches and programs (cough...calipari...cough...kentucky...cough...). i don't need to see you playing college basketball unless you plan to stay there at least for a few years.

embiid is a great example of what's wrong with basketball in general. he played one year at kansas and left after a year because of his "upside". apparently he sand bagged the whole year with the sixers last year because a massive new contract suddenly healed his foot. he played just enough games last year to show everyone what he could do so he could demand that kind of money now.

and everyone in philly is freaking out about how great he is. give me a break.

While it may be a fair question, the source who was asking is not going to give a fair shake no matter what, so it is pointless exercise. But if anyone is shocked that unfair/illegal practices happen at the highest level then you are naive beyond any hope. The fact is he graduated from Drexel and the BS rules allowed him to leave and he left for a better opportunity. We would be disingenuous to argue that Louisville was not a better opportunity, regardless if it was suspiciously aided.

We are well aware players jump at the highest offer, whether its under the table money or COA or whatever it is. Benefits at the biggest schools will always trump those at smaller ones. When a top tier player goes to a smaller school it is absolutely fair to question their motives. I hope this is the tip of the iceberg and more comes down and cleans the whole system up, but I seriously doubt it will. As long as there is money to be made, people will do bad and illegal things to turn more profit. So as long as the NCAA allows themselves to be a minor league system this will continue, no matter how many programs go on probation or people end up in jail. 1 and done would stop if the NCAA wanted it to. They control how the APR's are calculated and they could make those jumping early to the NBA hit that rate, and that would kill schools from recruiting very many of those players. But as long as the money flow continues acting as the minor leagues, they will not change that and it will be business as usual.

I decided that I will no longer call Lee a traitor. I do appreciate that he has asked to be announced as playing for Drexel instead of for Louisville. That means a lot.

He took advantage of a rule that rewards players who graduate early, but screws over mid-major schools like Drexel. Drexel was victim to this rule 3 times in about 5 years after never having it happen to them in the past. The program has suffered as these three transfers arguably has cost the program numerous wins in a short span. Players are hampered by so many NCAA rules, so I will no longer blame a player who chooses to take advantage of a rule that can actually work in a player's favor.

i don't remember my initial reaction but i think it worked out for everyone. it probably tipped the scales to replacing bruiser. he's on the bench at indiana which isn't a bad job. ideally spiker takes us another step or 3 and we're a success story as well.

i wouldn't be surprised if wynter leaves. hopefully i'm wrong. it seems tougher these days to rebuild a program with the power 5 vultures out there.

If Wynter leaves, we're screwed as a program. Up until about 5-10 years ago, guys never transferred from mid-majors to majors, it was always the other way around. Now it seems to be happening a lot. Now the difference between Wynter vs. Isabel, Lee, and Demir is that those other guys left graduated and had eligibility. Wynter would have to sit out a year. Hopefully a guy like Wynter sees the program on it's way up, and that he would want to stay and be part of something special.

you dont think the current players notice theyre playing in front of 800 people a night, and the athletic director carries on about squash and rec sports bubbles instead of doing anything about it?

I know that's what you want the players to think about, because the only time you ever post here is to give a conceded, negative view point of things. But that's the furthest on most of the players' minds. They know what Drexel's attendance is before they choose the school. If attendance was that big of a deal, then they'd go elsewhere. They're here because it's a great school. They like the coaches, and they like their teammates. What Spiker is selling recruits on is the opportunity to start a new winning tradition at Drexel. To give them the opportunity to be the part of the team who brings the fans back and get the school excited about basketball again. That was his sales pitch at Army and he's doing the same thing at Drexel. It's happening at a slower pace than I would have like to see, but I do see improvements in the quality of recruits and I do see good things on the horizon here at Drexel.

Great article, and not surprised by it in the least. Last year when he played in Philly he stopped by the DAC to catch a game and was wearing Drexel gear. After his NBA game he was wearing Drexel gear to his post game conference. That said a lot. Most of us understood and didnt blame him in the least for leaving. He graduated. He didnt owe us anything. Hopefully we do not do anything to piss on his relationship with Drexel. We could certainly use prominent alumni who are prideful in our program.

Pretty neat of Damion to take the Warriors to the DAC last night. Would be pretty neat if the team got to watch them shoot around or practice or meet the team. That would be a nice boost to the team before heading to Dealware.
