I am REALLY surprised they didn't call targeting on the hit on Wassink where he fumbled. Watching the game in replay and the tackler definitely led with the helmet. Bad no call by the officials.
That TD just before half for Wagner was presented to them on a silver platter by 3 Bronco penalties, all of them unnecessary. 03-banghead
My largest concern on that play... you were running just fine with Bogan and Franklin... why the hell do you put your only QB in position to get injured AT ALL in this game... that was our season right there if Wassink gets injured...

Oh... and no way was that anything other than targeting on that play... guy led with the crown of his helmet... high on Wassink's upper body... oh well...

Agreed, no need to put our QB at risk. And if he falls this season is down the tubes, so why risk it?
How about the fact that they called a roughing the kicker on a WMU player who was literally laying on the ground and the kicker (after the kick) fell over him... just bad officiating... I could swallow a "running into the kicker".... but roughing? No WAY.
"That was a heck of a drive by Wagner".... Uh.... what drive there after the terrible roughing call did that announcer watch? They gained nearly every yard after the field goal attempt due to penalties...

I think the reason Lester did that in a game like this is because he knows that Wassink deeds more experience, and this was the kind of game that collectively the coaches and Wassink can work on things they want him to get right. Right now I am more concerned about him not knowing the right thing to do, and lack of experience in general, than I am with him being injured. Every snap is a new lesson with a green QB like Wassink. Also, he has had some games so far which probably challenged his confidence (MSU particularly, but even the other two games to a lesser degree). the second half of Wagner was an opportunity to allow Wassink to complete some passes, and have a "feel-good" game against lesser competition.

I do wish though that they let the backup QB throw a few passes when he got in. I think opposing coaches understand that you want to get a kid some real game experience. I wouldnt throw deep balls, but allow the kid to complete a few short to mid passes.
You can't predict when and if a player is going to get hit. He does need to learn to slide on these runs but is clearly a competitive guy and good athlete

My belief it's good for a QB to take a few hits. Otherwise they spend their time living in fear. They need to know, I went in there and busted that lb right in the chops. Get a little respect. Punch it in if that is what's needed. Then you can step back and slide if that's the right thing.

But until you prove you can take it there will always be a question in your mind and your teammates mind.

MAN-CRUSH, MAN-CRUSH

One brisk Saturday....as afternoon turned into evening...as Ryan Cubit went from doing nothing to getting hurt...in comes a young gun Freshman...YGF starts throwing bombs to Jennings and Scheffler. Relentless comeback falls JUST short on missed Fidgies.

But...a star was born. His name? Hiller4Hyz09.
